Today as a beginner golfer I get a swing lesson to fix my swing path to become more inside out. I get multiple simple golf drills from my coach in order to help me do that. Hopefully you guys learn something from this lesson like I did!

  1. A little slide is good, more slide isn’t better – extract from your earlier episode

  2. Hips should rotate back never a sway, never a "bump" to create space for your hands. You're catching it fat because even though your getting your hip "bump" your not getting deep enough turn at impact. Look at your video 10:10 marker, hips are parallel with the target line, and with your side bend that golf tech is trying to get you at you have no choice but to hit it heavy. Sorry Jarome, I've been through dozen of swing coaches and one of the lessons you'll learn through your journey is when to find a new coach. Being a scratch golfer with a TV screen and numbers doesn't always = to be a great swing coach. For the price that you paid for that 5 lesson package you're better off gett 1 lesson from someone like Shawn Clement, or Mike Malaska.

Also, note that lag isn't something that you can hold or create with your hands. The physics of the club wants to drop behind you but that can only be achieved as a result of a proper turn, acceleration and grip pressure. If you need proof of this, just get to the top of your swing with 30 percent grip pressure and rotate your hips, you'll notice the head drops automatically ( this creates inside out through hip separation and rotation) Now do the same thing again getting to the top of your backswing with 30% grip pressure, without shifting your hips grip the club with 90% percent pressure. you'll notice that you lose the weight of the club head. This is what 99 percent of golfers do.

Gripping the club at 90% pressure is not incorrect however if you're goal is to hit the golf ball. it is however incorrect when you're trying to swing a club. Hitting the ball equates to a steep AOA which is correct if your goal is to hit the "hammer the ball" but if you're trying to shallow your swing and have in-out club path you need to swing the club, like you're throwing the head of golf club at your target.

  3. The problem that will/can occur going to different swing coaches is you can get conflicting theories on how the swing works. The 1st tip of not allowing supination of the ankle would go against the more flexion/rotation type swing pattern neither right or wrong. If you are really looking to improve I would suggest sticking to coaches with similar theories that makes sense/works for you when you discover that.

  4. Take a look at some slow mo vids on Brooks Koepka's swing, it'll give you a real good visualization of what that right shoulder, elbow, arm should be doing. Keep up the grind.

  5. Have to agree with the other comment that the hip bump is a dumb idea in the long run. You were simply starting your downswing too much with your arms and upper body. The solution is to begin the downswing with your lower body with a following behind upper body. The hip bump inhibits proper pelvic rotation and is also hard on the low back. Maybe look for an instructor who teaches more of a stacked body rotation with proper body movement timing. You might get with Brendon on Be Better Golf and see who he recommends as a good instructor in your area (also might be good to be on his channel since he has a large following to expand your exposure). You could also ask Mike and Derek for instructor suggestions. Working with a good instructor who already has a large YouTube membership is smart on the marketing side of things. Hoping you get to scratch and 100K members as soon as possible!

  6. Hey J, take a look at Adam Porzak to get a lesson or 2 in the future. Based out of Rancho Bernardo which is about 30 minutes from Mission Bay. One of his students (Mason Greene) just joined the Good Good crew as a sponsored player.

  7. This dude is screwing with your swing, there is no pause in the golf swing except a 0.25 sec at the top, try Milo Lines golf.

  8. Don't be up in arms about the hip bump.. even in the video your hips barely got back over your lead ankle.. you need them to be.

  9. the hip bump actually causes more fat shots. I had to train the hip bump out of my swing to improve

  10. Head tilt back . I don’t know about that. Even when this coach demonstrate , he did not tilt head back.

  11. This is beyond bad, this is video instruction where there is an over reliance of freeze shots of professionals and you end up learning positions instead of a golf swing. You need to transition to playing on course with an instructor so you can get a baseline of your game, play the Balboa 18 with an instructor

  12. You need to just keep playing and spending hours on the short game area. A good swing does not a good player make. Good golf is not flashy, it's just quick. Get the ball in the hole as fast as possible.

  13. Look for another swing coach…. You look lost in this session .
Showing Rickie Fowler swing and teaching sway is confusing…

  14. So you deleted my comment when i was first who said this hip slide method is actually bad? What about now? Are you going to delete everyone else comments too?

Im trying to help you out 😅. This "scratch golfer" is not good at coaching.

Check out milo lines golf like someone already mentioned

  15. After your GolfTec credits are up, try looking into Mike Maggs (Carlsbad Golf Center) Porzak Golf (The Heights CC Rancho Bernardo) Cory Scoggin (The Farms CC) GolfTec has great technology and feedback but quality isn’t near what you can get from other great coaches, 30 min sessions arnt nearly enough..

  16. So the coach is asking for early right side bend and slide in the downswing? Seems like a good way to get dumped underneath leading to hooks. Plus he keeps saying the word "lag." Do not try to lag the club. This whole lesson is a little cringe IMO. Work on one thing at a time. I couldnt even watch the whole thing. I almost threw up.

  17. Without care ,you are on the road to confusion and chaos. No game has more opinions on how it should be done, many of them valid in their own right , but they are not designed to mix and match. The old joke about asking an opponent whether they breath in or out on the downswing is based upon the reality of the game and the auto- suggestion that most of us suffer from. I sorry but I can’t watch your stuff any more. You’re not only screwing yourself up but likely many other players who are looking for improvement.

  18. There are zillion of ways to propel the club..dont be caught in the 🐇hole. Teach your hands 1st….they hold the Secret 🦄

  19. I'm not a fan of that "hips forward". Was very misleading to me….
    The hips has go around!

  20. Bumping the hips forward by ANY measure is a bad idea.. it causes you to lean sideways too much and you'lll get stuck and you'll get flippy with the hands..

  21. Dude, pick a coach and stick to him. This is madness. Both are good coaches, they just have different approaches. Mike is an old school “feel” guy. And golf tech is very technical. They got you all mixed up. Who do you prefer?
