Today is another day on the journey of trying to become a scratch golfer starting from absolutely nothing. As a beginner golfer, I’m taking golf swing lessons, putting lessons, driving lessons, and everything in between to try to become a scratch golfer. And today we have a round of golf – 9 holes to see how the progression.

  1. At par 3s, sometimes, I’ll go one club higher and do a half swing. My face is more consistently square.

  2. When your around the edge of the green no need to go with the 56 degree… Try an use a 8 iron putt with it you'll eliminate 3 putting for sure take it to the bank brother you got this been following you since day one

  3. Loving this….I just started golf 6 weeks ago and I get lessons every week from a local Pro. I get additional lessons every day from your coaches and I really hope you channel blows up, you deserve it. I've watched every single video and that last few have made a massive improvements on my accuracy and swing rhythm. Was at the range yesterday practicing 100yrd shots and was placing them all within 10yrds..and dead straight on target….that fast, slow, slow, fast and takeaway drills made the biggest gains by far!

  4. Hey man, you gotta give yourself credit for shots off the tee that are still in play, even if it's short or not the shape you wanted. You hit the green off the tee and you still complaining bro hahaha. Your tendency to think you're going to hole-in-one every single time/ drain 20+ foot putts all the time is doing more harm than good. Try to keep composure on the green too, even after a bad putt. Not only for yourself but as courtesy for your playing partners too.

  5. Clubbing up is the smartest thing you can do. One club up will help. You will hit more greens and have shorter puts. If you do it. The second smartest thing would be Shot Scope or Arccos will help you gauge how far you hit your clubs. Good job today. You mostly avoided the right-side woods at Reidy.

  6. you need to learn all the stick in your bag bro so you can play the big course…

  7. Great job. When you miss those putts short line the next ones up like normal and putt them in the cup with a smooth stroke. The fast kick in the cup is for the better players. Each stroke is an attempt at getting better.

  8. I accidentally skipped ahead like 100 videos to this one and was like “wow he’s hitting it way better now, I feel like he should be more pumped.” Then realized I jumped ahead 100 videos😅

  9. We need an 18 hole video of a 6500+ yard course. It’s the only way to improve.

  10. I just started playing golf as well and I live in SD. Have you played the Sycuan par 3 course? It’s great!

  11. The silver lining to your putting woes is that every missed putt except one was on the right. Your miss is consistent which should make it simpler to correct. Do you think you might be aligning your feet at the hole instead of parallel left? It looks like it on every miss to the right. Keep up the good work.

  12. When you have a short putt left, make sure to take your time and finish them with a proper stroke instead of rushing through. You missed a couple of those close ones and keep in mind, they count as strokes!

  13. It’s nice to see the shot progression and how far you’ve come, but all the negativity makes it hard to watch. Your “bad” swings look pretty good to me. Just accept if you’re near the green and enjoy the game. That’s golf! More positivity is all you need brotha

  14. Long post but best one on putting you'll read today…

(Step 1.) Develop repeatable putting stroke with predictable distance results. I use a mallet putter like you (about 4" face to tail), and I find that a backswing equal to the length of the putter head from face to tail with a 2 second backswing (4") and 1 second return back to the ball with a follow through equal to your backswing (4") will produce a 12 foot putt. 2x the length backswing (8") with same follow through as backswing (8") and same 2:1 ratio will produce a 24 footer. I know from watching your previous videos you're a data guy. You want to build consistency by removing variables. Make that tempo, equal backswing and follow through distance consistent and the only thing you have to do to produce putts of different length putts is vary the backswing and follow through length- THAT'S IT, and that you can judge visually by using the length of your putter head as a measuring tape of sorts as you stand over the ball. Want a 6 footer- that's a backswing and follow through at 2:1 tempo equivalent to half the length of your putter (2"). Of course all of this will be specific to you- but use this thinking and approach to develop a repeatable and predictable putting result.

    (Step 2.) Get to know what your stock putter shots are in your head- 1/4 putter head BS/FT = 3', 1/2 a putter head BS/FT = 6', 3/4 putter head BS/FT = 9', 1 putter head BS/FT= 12', 8" = 24. Then apply same approach to lag putts. 3 putter heads of BS/FT gets you 48'.

(Step 3.) Always, Always, Always, (Always) know how many feet your putt is prior to planning your shot and reading the break (did I say Always enough?). That's how you develop feel. You start building a database in your brain of experience. "OK, so I applied my methodology in 1. and ended up 2" short or 2" long- whatever the case…" then next time you dial it in a little better- only adjusting backswing / follow through distance.

(Step 4.) Once there you can apply your consistent skill of speed and distance to read and adjust AIM for BREAK to the pin… Without 1 & 2 reading / aiming for break is IMPOSSIBLE!

(Step 5.) INVEST IN REPEATABLE PRACTICE! When I practice putting I pair up a 10 foot Wellputt training mat (wellputt dot com) with a Blast Golf motion sensor (blastmotion dot com) on the grip of my putter- it's accelerometer measures the time from backswing start time to the time back to the ball and measures the ratio as described above. And the Wellputt mat has a ball locator circle, an Aim line with Backswing and Follow through distances printed perpendicular to the line printed right on the mat at 3 distances from the hole. If you hit the line, apply the 2:1 ratio, and BS and FT distances printed it always results in a putt over the hole and 1 foot past it in the "Good Zone".

Long post, I know- but if you read it ask your putting coach about this this methodology / approach. I'll be interested to hear what they (or others here) think… I challenge anyone to describe a more effective and shorter post about putting. I can't wait to start watching you drain 15 and 16 footers with this knowledge!

  15. Try holding your follow through on every shot; i.e. at the end of your chips, your flopping your club down into the grass. That subconscious habit to awkwardly drop your club on ANY shot will actually affect the shot because your brain begins to associate that with the entire swing and it does weird shit to your swing. Plus it shows your lack of commitment to whatever you were trying to do on that particular shot. Also, you really need a on the course coaching session (LOTS OF THEM) to help you know how to read your and assess your lie's, club choice and how to start calibrating your distance control. Your dispersion on your irons was SO good on this course. You really should be WAY more stoked for how good your doing in such a short time.

  16. dude you played near bogey golf on a par 3, which is actually very impressive. Your ball striking with the irons was really good. Better than you think, obviously LOL. You should have walked away feeling AMAZING about how many strokes you shaved off!! literally your only big issue is the short game. Clean that up, and you will shooting bogey golf or better EASY.

  17. Best way to get better is to play a course. Hitting off mats at the range is totally different than hitting off grass. Practice at the range can only do so much for you. I'd say 20% range 10% putting green 10% chipping green, 60% 18 holes on a real course.

  18. I honestly feel your back swing is to fast at the stage your in, and your not giving yourself enough time at the top for the body to rotate.

  19. Hi Jerome. I’ve been following since the start. I want to make some suggestions
    1. Take an extra club. You are almost always too short by at least 10m. I know your perfect 8 iron goes 140 but…
    2. Please ditch the 60 degree until you can use it properly. Just take it out of the bag. It’s not an easy club to use.
But love the content. Especially the gym sessions.

  20. Seeing a lot of "you need to play more its the only way to get better" comments. This is totally the wrong idea if you actually want to improve significantly starting from where you were. Learning how to manage your inconsistent swing to make the best of it will improve your scores, but not by anywhere near as much as learning how to have a less inconsistant swing, improving chipping and putting first. All of those require you to put the work in practicing. If golf is about enjoying your leasure time sure go out and play instead, but if you want to really improve the only way is to practice.

  21. Your tempo looks terrible . You are rushing the down swing and making flips trying to recover . Your swing looks nothing like at the range . Also take a Short game lesson . Good luck . For the short time you have been at this you don't look like a hacker . Lastly , Keep your head in the game . It appears you are all over the place mentally . Next time you play pick out the best player in the group and play to beat him or her . Seriously . You're out on teh course and look like you are goofing around

  22. You are killing it. Like seriously, the improvement over a handful of months has just been impressive!
The one suggestion I would give is to really give your pre-shot routine a solid once over. A lot of your shots, I see a soft practice swing without a lot of direction and intent behind it and then you get up and hit your ball with a much fuller swing. This is not what your HOF coach has been showing you to do. Outside of that, 10 over through your round there is pretty awesome.

  23. Looking good but I'm not seeing any of the practice stuff on the course. I see the over swing and then you fall slightly backwards. I don't see the feet flared out. When you're chunking, you're not doing the 3 part practice swing where you take club parallel, then up/hinge then swing AND you don't bend knees on your practice swings on the course or hold/and let club drop through your fingers. Practice vs Course very different. Back Leg straighten on 1st tee. You put very well for public courses. Its hard to put on public courses because they vary in grass and maintenance. You should put every put properly or you'll develop a non-putting bad habit. Lastly, stay over and behind shot. You're looking for the ball right after your swing.

  24. I really need you to relax lol. You’re not going to birdie and par every hole. Please start taking EVERY putt serious. You’re creating bad habits and etiquette
