Seen this like 4 times csuse i grew up on him,but its gud yo see you're channel doing so well all love here ❤ keeping growing
Larry’s older brothers said that while growing up, they were always getting into fights with each other, but would have each other’s back against anyone else. It was just the mindset of that time and place. You don’t back away, but you don’t pick on someone smaller than you. When the fight was over, it was over, and both would have greater respect for each other for being willing to stand up.
Larry got better at interviews as he matured. At that time, athletes were not trained on how to deal with the media. Not only was Larry shy, but he had bad experiences with the media during his college years. Chick Hearn did a nice job of drawing Larry out by talking about summers and fishing. Quinn Buckner used to stay at Larry’s house during the summer. He told stories about how they ran on an asphalt road up a hill each morning. Shawn Kemp also told a story about Larry trash talking him one minute and then inviting him to his house during the summer. Larry always deflected praise by passing the praise on to his teammates or opponents. He would speak highly of everyone else, except Laimbeer. The two men he consistently complimented the most were DJ and Michael Cooper. I think he admired them for their basketball IQ, their skills, and the way they unselfishly played the game without showboating it. Larry wasn’t much of a showman, but even that evolved. During his early years, after making a spectacular play, he would just turn around and get back on D. He started giving high-fives in his middle years, and at the end of his career, started punching the air. I think he saw how his opponents’ antics got the fans going. Larry liked it when the crowd was involved. He also felt that since they paid good money to watch, they deserved to see something spectacular. But, you’d never see Larry beating his own chest.
🙂 Thank you for doing this reaction. Hearn did seem to know how to interview Larry. Bird seems to trust him, and I'm thinking that was the biggest hurdle any interviewer had to overcome.
I love the personal bits in this interview that just came out naturally.
You probably know that Bird guarded his private life, as well as those of his family and friends, quite fiercely. I admire that loyalty.
I especially loved how he equated the tussel with Dr. J like one with his brothers. "..still respect and love them afterwards, why not Julius"
Thanks for the shout out. Thank YOU for the opportunity to share suggestions, info and opinions/insights. 👍
Question: have you looked up how many and who have 3 mvps in a row?
I grew up with Chick Hearn. He coined the phrases, SLAM DUNK, AIR BALL, THIS GAME IS IN THE REFRIGERATOR FOLKS, PICKED HIS POCKET, FELL ON HIS WALLET, IN THE POPCORN MACHINE, NO LOOK PASS, GIVE AND GO,TICKY TACK FOUL, THROWS UP A BRICK, FINGER ROLL, PRESSURE COOKER, This game is in the refrigerator folks the lights are out the butters getting cold, the eggs are getting cold and the jello is giggling. God bless chick . Nobody even close to Chick. You could be blind and get it all.
Good video BU. I love watching his interviews. He is always respectful. But he’s also honest. Thanks
