Jason Day and Adam Scott lead a strong Australian contingent after the opening round of the Masters at Augusta National. Day, the 2015 PGA champion, hit a reckless 67-point round and his drive was accentuated by a good save at par-4 after finding trouble on the left. Scott started with 68-point four-six laps, day’s only bogeyman finally arriving after finding the trees on right. Three players, Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka, share the lead with seven unders after opening rounds of 65. “It’s probably my best opening lap ever,” said Scott, who won here in 2013. “I was supposed to be happy with it. But it was ideal conditions, quite soft with the humidity and there would be low scores. So it was nice to start in the right direction.” ” Scott noted that it’s especially important to be in a good position early on given the bad weather forecast. Rain is expected for last part of the second round and entire third round. “We don’t know what will happen and how weather will affect the rest of week,” Scott said. “So, if you’ve been hanging around since the beginning of the week like this, it probably helps.” Reigning Open champion Cameron Smith is also in a good position after two under-rounds with a solid 70. Jason Day is in contention after the opening round of the Masters. After two other Australians, Min Woo Lee and amateur Harrison Crowe opened by 75 rounds, they both have work to do to cut. Lee’s round was settled in second nine, with par-five a bogey on the 13th followed by a double bogey six on 14th. Meanwhile, Crowe bogeyed the last two holes of his round.
