after watching you for years I figured out how to swing towards the target. alignment was one of my big issues. feet hips where left of target, shoulders where on the target. was looking over my shoulders. what was happening keep closing clubface (hook) or blocking the ball left the brain (supercomputer) keeped telling my body the target was left because shoulders were aiming right. Now make big effort to pick target for my shoulders as well as my club face hitting it straighter longer thanks
key phrase…2:06…"be aware of the arm /club unit weight and use that weight to deliver your action"…beautiful, concise and right on point !
Your videos are always so awesome. Thanks for sharing. I really need to work on my dynamic swing and allowing the arm-club unit to do the work.
My divots have been awful (or non-existent), distance is suffering, and I am releasing early and flipping at the ball… DUCK HOOK CITY.
Any specific tips to help with impact position and just feeling the proper swing?
You are releasing at the ball instead of through to the target; see "fencing for power shawn clement" "throwing the club shawn clement" "dynamic vs static shawn clement" and "sledge hammer golf shawn…"
Bravo Shawn ,merci de partager autant de savoir
Thank you for the great feedback; it just goes to show that when you are teaching with the right fundamentals and knowledge of anatomy and neurology that pertain to negotiating gravity, you get better at your craft and not only elevate your students but also elevate yourself; amazing how that happens!
This is why it must be shared!
My grip was right hand was coming over the top of my left hand where my thumbs were inline to the club face. This felt right but I wasn't getting near enough power. After watching this, and modifying my grip, my yardage has increased dramatically and it feels more natural than before. I've taken 2 30 minute golf lessons in the last 2 weeks and, after visiting the range yesterday, I am almost confident (or cocky) enough to tell the guy "Pick a pin". Thank you so much Shawn.
Hi Shawn thanks for the video, I use a R7 cbg max driver, I intend to swing slow to have a control over flight and accuracy but it limits my distance (240 yds), if I increase the weight of the club shaft( ie from 60 gms to 75gms) will it increase the distance keeping the same swing speed?
Hello Shawn,
Love your videos the thing I notice most is the freedom you have in your teaching.
I play off of 4 and have not been allowing gravity to hit the ball.
That's about to change keep the videos coming.
Will.
Thank You Shawn for really great teaching. I have watched most of your vids and for the first time I picked up something I dont get. You say gravity is doing the snap, not the hands. So I wonder, where in the swing to make use of that great pressure point of the right index knuckle from your knife the grip video?

Thanks a lot for your reply! Just a few weeks of studying and practice your principles are paying off. I am a 10 hcp that after years of frustrating lessons and position fixation, and mostly scoring mid 90, suddenly scoring mid 70s! Reborn 🙂
Shawn…. This is a big one I think many people will be interested in your answer to this. If they try a big hip turn two possible outcomes are 1) you get miles away from the ball. 2) you kind of lean toward target too much to accommodate the turn. You seem to manage your big hip turn without doing either. I bet there is a simple swing thought that I have missed and many have that can address this. I watched a Gary Player video and he defines it spot on the lean toward target because of incorrect hip turn but as usual the reason/ thought process behind this is not explained. You get me? Hope so….
By the way. This is probably the best video of the second pendulum release on the internet. Just my hip turn now. Feels natural to lean to target and I know thats wrong…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1qav60rRSY Gary Player @5.55 – 6.10 in the video.
All good Shawn. You might want to explain again and underline, none of these moves are possible without the (righty) right hand, club in the fingers , well underneath I mean way underneath, see Freddie Couples or almost any pro, and firmness in right thumb and trigger finger. The hands feel like they are welded ligaments holding a long bone in place. Weird but magical…
Shawn @ 6:37 you get your left arm a fair amount vertical. In order to do this how are you setting your right wrist? Both your left wrist and right wrist are both "flat" which I assume allows the swing to get more vertical to have more consistency to strike the ball vs having a more flat swing plain, which I feel may cause more fat shots? The more vertical the more steep an attack? The left wrist is well documented, but many never speak about right wrist position at the top of the back swing. You hear not coming over the top and keep your right elbow down. This is a great video to really show how fluid you can be.
GREAT !
I was able to shot a 73 after doing the drill I have learned from reading through these golf swing secrets “Jοmtοnο Naha” (Google it). Another achievement I have made is hitting 13 of 18 greens in regulation. I also almost hit the green with a distance of 5 to 10 yards on the other Five holes. My handicap is a 9 so I don`t shoot 73s all of the time. It was not my best round ever, but it was my best in a long time.
Quick question Shawn I have only been playing a few months, have decent backswing, taken a few lessons, however I am having a hard time understanding "IF" i am hitting my irons correctly, because everyone says you shouldn't feel anything in your arms, wrists. Everyone says that you shouldn't be trying to manipulate the wrist.
On my downswing when my iron is parallel to the ground, the moment right before the wrists start releasing. I'm right handed, should it feel as "IF" I am pulling up with my left hand and at the point the right hand just releases like a hammer to hit the ball when I start feeling the weight on my left heel? That is the feeling I get and I tend to generate a ton of club head speed. Also i am running Recoil shaft irons and I feel like they amplify this feeling a little more due to the extra bend in the shaft. Thank you.
You do realize your head is moving all over the place and the swing looks like a dipsy-doodle move. Not too sure the average golfer can replicate this!
Best drill ever !!!
