PGAT want a matchplay event just not a WGC one open to all . They went to great lengths to bypass the top64 criteria to suit there ends .
Yes Dom. LIV have a strong field every event….why is that a bad thing?
LIV should have an end of year match play in the off season with a huge purse.

Also getting rid of the wgc international flare of the match play is an absolute shame. Match play should come back but it seems the pga tour systematically killed off the wgc events for whatever reason. I honestly am pretty sad about it. I feel so bad for Austin folks whom had one of the best events in international golf and were doing a heck of a job entertaining the world.
I and many much rather see the top guys from other tours over the third fourth tier of pga tour guys. I don’t care about “strength of field” especially since the owgr are absolute chaos right now. And even before LIv it was questionable bias for pga tour.
Did you see how many dramatic moments we had all week? Too many to name. Sam and Cam were not as big a names as Sheffler and Rory but they got a little closer. This event grows brands. This event makes new stars. A lot of people now see cam and Sam as stars after all the air time they got.
I like sudden death from the start but I’m ok with round robin to start. We want both really. We also want the international guys because you never know where a star is lurking and the match play is a great place to introduce them.
What I would incorporate for the match play is a system with more consolation matches. Forget everyone plays 3 matches. Make them all come back for something Saturday. And by late Sunday there could still be 8 meaningful consolation matches. If Scottie and Rory can play a consolation match rather than pulling a Shen Shen/Hideki everyone can. WDs have to be more penal in match play events. If your hurt fine but the player has to lose a little extra to make them think twice before quitting.
Until match play returns, we return to watching a montage of never ending stroke play shots, because we get a little more contenders late Sunday.
But I ask again, why are sponsors and tv not realizing all the final round excitement they get for 4-5

Compared to stroke play. And you know I love stroke play.
But match play man, it’s a beautiful thing. And like a broken hearted lover, we just lost that beautiful thing again.
