But that costs to much money! Even tho the nfl already breaks even in Costa from its Tv deal so they don’t really even have to sell a ticket.
It's actually funny as a Brit to hear them say that NFL owners are stringent and won't spend like Tottenham has on their new stadium because Daniel Levy and Tottenham are notriously stringent in English football when compared to other clubs around them
Look at any european soccer, its all grass, any astro turf and 3g pitches are terrible and elite players will not play on them
Why not just adopt what the XFL is doing? It works
Artificial turf is the reason why season, sometimes career, ending injuries have become so common. All the energy from a high-speed, quick cut moves through body to the softer grass/soil playing surface. Below turf is concrete, there's nowhere for that energy to go so it finds the next easiest exit, which is the knee.
Turf is evil and has no place in contact sports. I know soccer is different, but there are studies in soccer showing that switching from grass to turf greatly increases the chance of injury. Teams that play on turf at home have a marked advantage injury wise because they play and train on it regularly. Soccer all but requires it in every league but MLS (and I hate turf there). Internationals must be played on grass.
I'll never forget the playoff game for KC vs Indy where Charles was tackled and his head whipped back onto turf. Instant concussion. Turf is much less forgiving and adds a lot of risk. Heads and knees are at serious risk.
Outlaw turf now!
PS. Female soccer players took the fight to FIFA and won to get grass at all World Cup games. It's a requirement for men's games, but it wasn't for women. They cited the injury issues and unequal treatment and won. Does the NFL care less about their players than FIFA does the women?
Wait. So is Florio saying the fields with all the shredded black pieces of rubber the size of a pin head IS a grass field, or is turf?
My only question is for pure dome stadiums, how do you move grass outside to get water and sun. Not every stadium has a conveyor belt like the cardinals and raiders. I’m not an engineer but I don’t think you can just add that to stadiums that didn’t have that in the plan already
Some of the domes I think would be challenged to provide natural grass. I now Phoenix was built to do so, but I think Minnesota and Detroit would be tough.
The nfl should have the same perspective about playing surfaces as top-tier worldwide soccer: the game (or match) is played on a natrual grass field (or pitch), or it's not played at all. The natural grass surface is considered as fundamental and necessary to play as markings on it delineating the goal box and the penalty spot.
Why aren't we asking why can't we make artificial turf better and safer than grass? Artificial means we can make it whatever we want. Why does it even have to mimic grass?
"The NFL's recent rate of noncontact injuries to the knee, ankle and foot is roughly the same on natural and artificial playing surfaces, according to internal data reviewed by ESPN last year." from an article about Metlife Stadium getting new turf.
I prefer field turf every day of the weak. Grass is great until any sort of weather then its a nightmare for players. I never felt less safe then wet field at lincoln financial field in philly. Slipping and sliding everywhere. No sort of footing for a pass rush. Has a much bigger impact on the game
Why hasn’t no one talked about FIFA requiring each stadium participating in the 2026 World Cup to have a grass field?
Unfortunately for Pat, the issue is the play. Grass won't prevent dudes from concussing one another
Id like to see bigger shoulder pads and harder hits. The game sucks now. I want my weekly dose of violence…..sorry just being honest
If safety is important they way forward is undeniable… oh but the costs 🤑
Titans have been the most injured team the past 2 years and it’s not even close. Their home field is grass.
The injury problem has a lot of factors, but turf isn’t the only one.
This sounds great but I read somewhere the same number of ACL tears on grass and Astro turf. There’s no difference
Are they going to make them all GOOD grass fields tho? Some terrible grass fields in the league right now….
Cuz ppl didn't get injured before artificial turf? Dumbest show in sports
It's a moot point oh, they don't have a choice. Grass is a necessity especially if soccer is going to be played at multi-use facilities
Surprised to see Florio on the show, but glad he took the time to stop by and chat with the boys.
I don’t understand how owners think playing on artificial is cheaper. You risk your players getting injured and if it’s one of your best players, your biggest investment is getting paid to sit on the bench.
Bring back real grass and stop with these roof top stadiums man. We need nasty gritty muddy rainy snowy dirt covered jerseys type of a football back. Simple as that.
All the playing surface research you need to do is looking at MetLife’s injury record.
What was the excuse for the chargers who played on real grass for 50 years? They were consistently the most injured team every year
They need to implement the XFL kickoff rule.
Don’t get that Super Bowl grass tho lol
The XFL kickoff format is awesome
"You only do the research on questions you want to know the answer to"
That's a line right there
Agree the super bowl was prime example of why they should…
Let's not act like this is old news, all the fields were grass, then they cried it hard to play in mud and snow and rain with real grass. AS A WISE MAN INCE SAID " BOOM GOOD IDEA FARIY LET PLAY ONE A ROAD COVER WITH A GRASS LIKE CARPIT,." 20 + yl why we got so many injuries.
Did a thesis about this in 2009. Thought it was common sense back then and never understood why professional sports couldn’t have nice grass fields. I guess player safety only goes so far.
Pat, let’s be real here. The owners don’t care about injuries…they care about maximizing profits and maximizing revenue. With artificial turf fields, they can convert their field to something g different within a couple hours. Artificial turf is low maintenance as well. Owners don’t care about anything but money.
I want Mike Florio to have a middle-age crisis, go to the old country and find a young hot Sicilian bride so they can have a son and name him Furio Florio.
I have been screaming this for over 10 years
No reason why every team doesn't have grass field. There are heating coils and "sub-flo" systems to keep roots growing. There are organic paints that can be used when the grass goes off color. Off color doesn't mean not healthy.
Have you seen how some of these fields are with real grass? Washington's field ended a number of careers. The super bowl and Germany games were a joke too.
Yeah, we all have known since the 80s that grass is safer. Takes them this long to figure it out 😢
I grew up playing football on muddy fileds outside kansas city and I'd love to see the NFL get a little mud on their uniforms again.
