My perspective that no one asked for – New golf rule is like the NHL telling players, you guys are shooting pucks too hard, were going back to wooden sticks
A 4 iron from 180 from the 70s versus an 8 iron from 180 today is still a 180 yard shot and hard AF. Just having a shorter club in your hand with more loft doesn't make it easier. Just ask Bryson or Sadlowski.
Bombing past the golf course is no fun. Birdie fests are no fun. Driver wedge every hole is no fun.
20 yards is a minor obstacle for a pro golfer. Doesn’t seem worth it to change the industry; change the course!
I'm bit like Riggs & Dan I get the arguments for the roll back to some degree, however not sure this is going truly fix those perceived issues. Also feel it's more pressure from courses on USGA & R&A more than data driving it or asking everyone in golf, a pause on the ball would arguably have a similar affect. Saw someone use St Andrews as an example course but without weather it's been an easier Open course for a long time
Could this be compared to pro MLB players having to use wood bats when players grow up using metal bats even into college?
Punish the golfers for missing fairways, ball isn't the issue
Does the fact that Riggs is waiving his Grandmas underwear around during his rant make anyone else uncomfortable?
This new ball proposal is to keep courses like Augusta viable as the location of a major tournament. Augusta just added 30 yards to the 13th hole by moving the tees back. In order to do that they had to purchase land from a neighboring golf course. They needed to add distance to that hole because the par 4 10th and 11th holes are soon going to be longer and are going to be longer in yardage than both par 5s on that same back nine. If you want to make Augusta obsolete keep going on this path with these golf balls.
You guys know the carbon footprint for EV's is far higher than any gasoline vehicle out there? Your spewing of Chevy EV's 24/7 makes me want to puke
You know what solves the golf ball problem? Take away par. Take away the idea of par. Par is just the average number of strokes pros take to complete a hole rounded to the nearest whole number. Just have yardages on the scorecard and let people write down their score. Fuck par. Just play the hole in as few strokes as possible.
Maybe I'm over simplifying this but couldn't they figure out the holes at each event that a long hitter would benefit from and make it harder for that player? Knowing the long hitters avg X carry make that area on the hole have longer rough or skinner fairways making it a little more difficult for those hitters or if the avg hitters have a carry of X on those holes make the fairways a bit wider maybe giving those guys incentives to push distance a bit more
This is the absolute most ridiculous thing ever … since forever… create difficulties on the fairways… landing area… one can't change a ball cause of few human's can hammer the ball forever…. just fix the courses … minimum degrees on Drivers … and stop making clubs that can be fixed towards swing problems = all standard then go PRACTICE …. fix the game where the errors are … .not mess with what we all are using, loving and enjoying!
A '86 5 iron compared to a modern 8 iron is way different with nothing to do with the ball, club head technology, shaft technology, swing weight, flex, modern fitness, the ball ain't shit, the longer stronger players will still be the longer stronger players!
Riggs, you’re trash
Hey Rap!!! WITB???? What’s in that bottle on your top shelf????
Adam Scott is just class. Enjoyed his appearance and looking forward to the match with him mentioned in the conversation.
The roll back will not affect the recreational golfer it's only going to affect 1% of the top golfers that can reach 127 club head speed. If you’re wondering where the new standard comes from, 127 mph represents the top one percent of shots on the PGA TOUR. It doesn’t represent the fastest player on Tour. It’s not a number that any golfer, let alone group of golfers, achieves with regularity. As noted, nobody on Tour generates 127-mph head speed with regularity. As far as launch and spin are concerned, there’s likely a sizeable gap between optimal and what golfers actually do. If you’re the typical recreational golfer, the proposed change means mostly nothing. You’re going to be able to keep playing the same type of balls you’ve always played and it’s a safe bet that manufacturers will continue to churn out new and improved models every year or two. You’re not going to lose distance.
Hickory shafts is the only solution
