The new Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are two great watches for android users, but which is actually the best? After using these for one month, I found some drawbacks to be aware of as well as some pleasant surprises.

So I love the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and I have been wearing it since it came out about a month ago, but there is one huge flaw that was not really mentioned when it came out. This is a flaw that almost chased me back to Garmin watches. I can’t believe Samsung let this happen, but we’ll get into that in a minute.

START WITH SOME POSITIVES:
Raised edge makes the touch bezel easier to use
I personally really like the look and design of this

CONS:
GPS is super accurate when it works, but sometimes it does not work
I had location enabled
I did not auto start, This was manually started
This was in a region that GPS worked well before

Strava link is garbage. I run 4 miles and it tells Strava I ran 3.4 – why?
I think it is because sometimes GPS signal is not found until you already ran for almost one mile – see August 29th run

Large bezel is unacceptable honestly
Better on the Pro

Pro needs more buttons, or things that actually move (like a crown or bezel)

Compass watch face has issues

Thickness specs are misleading – the thickness is not 10.55mm, actually 15mm
The regular watch is 9.5mm claimed, 13mm actually
Shoutout to DCrainmaker for these measurements

PROS:
Very tactile buttons
I still love the pro strap
Very accurate HR
Pretty accurate GPS, but some meandering occasionally. Usually within 0.1 miles per 4 mile run
Great battery!
I love the in depth running analytics which tell me all about my running symmetry as well as how to improve (e.g. leg spring stiffness)

WHICH TO BUY:
I recommend the regular watch 5

  1. Awesome review bro, helps me decide if I should go for it. One thing you could have included in the video is some information about the phone calls in the LTE model..

  2. With what this watch gives, just buy Xiaomi band for £35 I have older band 5, step count fenomenal, i have no clue how, but it counts ONLY real steps, wiggle arm, move body around, move arm same as you walk, no, counts only real steps. Actual heart rate, compares with that with that arm sleeve thing that counts blood pressure/heart rate, it's amazing. Can play/pause/change music, any, not just Spotify, also control videos, camera, notifications but I don't care for that. Band 5 goes for £25.

  3. I don't get why it's common to say Upgrade, you're not upgrading, you're switching to another product/buying new one, upgrade is add something to existing by making it perform better than before, like changing battery on a phone.

  4. I was gonna buy the watch today, ima wait until I hear updates fixing it if not I'll just wait until they make another one.

  5. I've had the Samsung S22 Ultra for about 4 months now and it has gotten better with heating issues I feel like. Updates were frequent like once every month or a little more. I think Samsung will do the same for their Apple (I mean Samsung) watches! LoL!

  6. As a another button, there should be a knob in between the buttons, so this way we can go through the widgets w/o touching the screen

  7. I can't stand the black edge. I returned it because of that. And 2-3 out of 25 runs is 10% of all runs fail with GPS. That's not good.

  8. Also had my watch 5 pro for a month now. When running it does sometime record the pace and distance inaccurately

  9. Never understood why people think tick marks on a smartwatch look good. They don't. They're really tacky, and that's when it's on a watch face that actually "uses" them and the rest of the experience, they're just useless.
If you want tick marks, don't get a smartwatch as it literally makes no sense on them.

  10. All I heard is blah , blah , blah. I'm interested in how the phone works, GPS, STAND ALONE talk time, continously using the GPS battery time ????

  11. Update

From what I said before that if you want more accuracy turn the watch around on the back of your wrist give that a try Make sure it's tight.

The watch band makes a difference!!!

I got a wider watch band. A rugged Velcro hook and loop. The entire watch band is wider not just where it connects. IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE IN ACCURACY FOR THE HEART RATE!! Maybe because the watch is very heavy when you don't have stability it may rock from side to side while you're exercising or lifting weights. The real issue is when you're moving around, boxing, lifting weights etc.

The band keeps it stable and tight very little movement and rocking. Sometimes I wouldn't get good readings even with the blood oxygen measurements. It would work maybe 70% of the time. Same thing with the heart rate. NOW IT WORKS EVERY TIME!! EVEN THE BODY COMPOSITION WORKS BETTER!!

I tighten it up when I'm working out. Then I undo the Velcro and loosen it up a little bit walking around normally. Still works great both ways.

My findings were confirmed with the polar Hot rate monitor, and my FRONTIER X IN MY OPINION THE BEST HEART RATE LIVE ECG HEART STRAP MONITOR WITH INFORMATION YOU CAN'T GET FROM REGULAR HEART STRAPS ABOUT YOUR HEART GALAXY 5 WATCH PRO WAS PRETTY DEAD ON!!

    Peace out God bless!!

  12. I saw another video right around when you made this video.

Somewhere in September they didn't update to make the GPS more accurate and it made a difference. Somewhere around September 9th or 10th.. Don't know if you have the new update when you made this video.

I think there are even more updates after that.

  13. Just bought my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro yesterday. What should I say? I'm super satisfied and at the same time super disappointed. I do love the design, display, form factor, band! Top! BUT I do not have Samsung Phone (Google Pixel 6a) and nobody shared that the WORKING PROFILE DOES NOT WORK WITH NON SAMSUNG PHONES! Bummer!!! :(((((( One of the reasons I bought this watch was to be connected during my work-time, which is 8-10 hours per day. I really need several app's notification to pop up on my wrist while I'm without my phone (such as Google Calendar, Slack, Gmail etc). Unfortunately this is not possible with SGW5 + non Samsung. I was googling a lot and haven't found any adequate solution to this "issue" (probably it's not an issue, but more like Samsung eco feature). So … now I have 14 days to decide whether I'd return them back to store or get used to the watch without the work … what a sad story … @Mike, please consider adding this to your review, 'cause you have NOT mentioned it as well …

  14. There's a possibility that there weren't enough satellites on the days it didn't work properly. GPS accuracy is determined by this and your proximity to buildings, trees, etc.

  15. I own Galaxy Watch SM-R800, in which I love rotary bezel. Could miss that as quite often I have dirty hands/gloves and physical rotary bezel works like a charm here.
I have it since 24 dec 2018, so 4 full yrs now and still have solid 3 day on it. I have non LTE verson. AOD off, heart rate every 10 mins, wifi auto, gps off…
Do you ppl recommand LTE or nonLTE version of 5 pro?

  16. Hi thank you for your review of this watch, I'm very interested in buying one and I really trust what you say about it I've always enjoyed your reviews because you get to the point right away!!! Thank you so much!! 😃🙂😎👍

  17. I see mostly guys commenting. I'm curious if this would be too big for a woman’s wrist.

  18. Wow that is a HUGE problem. For any smartwatch… That's it's biggest feature. It's like if a phone couldn't always take phone calls.

  19. If i don’t use phone at all, what features i would be missing? Not just that I have iphone, i just don’t want single company collecting all my data so thinking about going with samsung for watch. I don’t care about notifications and calendar stuff at all.

  20. Samsung is making it really hard to stick with any if their products. I've had to switch to Sony for a phone after 10 years, and I've had a Galaxy watch since the 2 Classic. I just don't see the appeal compared to other watches now.

  21. Am I the only one that also have a strange feeling everytime the watch use the sensor to check things ? I don't know how to explain it, but is a feeling like when you give blood, that feeling that you have less energy in that part of the body ( arm )

  22. The GPS thing happen to me with a Samsung S21. Record parts of the track, but some parts (outdoor clears sky), get the data wrong or missing. What about in the not pro models?

  23. I have watched tons of reviews on this watch but you covered the real experience other reviews just read what it says on the watch box thank you

  24. I don't care about health stuffs. I even turnoff those time to exercise notifications. I just want Samsung watch that I can received, make pH call and reply most of apps notifications. And lastly, battery, is it good? How long can it last before I have to charge?. I'm still using watch 3. Battery I get is roughly around 4 days before I need to charge. I turn off always on display. Only turn on rise to wake.

  25. I actually hate that Garmin feature, and is one of the reasons I want to switch brands, the terrible heart rate tracking being another. Sure, if you've got all the time in the world, you can warm up while waiting for GPS to lock on. But if you're in a hurry, you go dash off somewhere, it sometimes won't track your run until you're a solid 5-6 minutes in. Terrible, IMHO. I'd rather you at least count step data before that, even if you can't aquire a GPS signal yet.

  26. I have the same gps issues on my Galaxy watch Active. I thought the had them fixed by now, but guess not

  27. What a woosy complaining about the bezel after liked it and about GPS for half video – you got a defective unit or get an update, TD👎

  28. I'm about to get my Galaxy watch 5 from TMobile. The BIGGEST positive of all: They got RID OF that horrible easily jammed rotating bezel. I HATED that about my original Galaxy watch! This virtual one with an actual inset screen…brilliant! I'm going to really like that! Another point for me who wears the watch constantly is the battery life, the Active 2 I had was TERRIBLE at this and was way worse than my original Galaxy watch by a whole bunch. It will be nice to get the long battery life. As for the features being a 71-year old with aheart that needs to be watched, the fitness stuff is just a waste, the heart monitoring health features ECG, blood oxygen and the like are a MUST! Don't know about that strap, I had a metal expandable I put on my Active 2 and may change that out. I'm not sure how I'm going to like that. I can't wait to get my watch and get started, TMobile has already activated the 4G LTE line, just waiting now for the watch!
