The art of getting lost in style, I didn’t get lost, however, I just struggled to remain accurate in my flying. The Microlight Flying Open Series have set the dates for 2023 and I have decided to enter to compete. In order to feel comfortable in my flying I wanted to practice a mock task just to see where I would need to improve….In short there were significant areas I would been to improve upon.
You don’t know, what you don’t know.
If you want to know more about the Open Series, have a look at the FB page below:

Aircraft speed, wind speed and direction, required track, something about triangles and time….😊
Interesting vid and really interested in Series. Must try and see if I can fit one or some of the weekends in.
Also look forward to the carb mod info.
Ah yes, I remember the beginning days of working out you’re either going much faster or much slower on your track than you expected because of the chart scale.
A small bracket and a backup stop watch might be a better option than garrotting yourself 😂
Fantastic vid. Looking forward to more of this. Carb vid sounds good. Funny, flying buddy sent out a link about Walbros spiral diaphragm kit. Might ruin my diet this month with too many carbs🤣
Really enjoyed the Video, for me attempting such accuracy is one for down the road. I can understand the buzz from getting it right. More required. 👍👍
That video reminded me of my Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme orienteering section, windy, wet, cloudy, not sure where I am the only difference is I was in North Wales and my fluffy clouds were sheep 🙂 Excellent video as always Giles.
Cheers Giles, flashbacks to the anxiety of feeling lost during nppl nav flights just came rushing right back. 😂 Great video, helps us average folk feel like there is hope to improve!
Hey Giles. My wife's grandfather was a navigator in the RAF during WWII. I bet he would be proud of you. Thanks for taking us along.
Very interesting about precision flying – thanks for taking us along. Very interested to watch the carb video. Looking forward to it. 😊
Way off track? Sounds familiar 🤣🤣
Definitely stick the stopwatch to your mapboard.
Awesome, such a challenge, and it's fun navigating by roads and towns when you can't see the signs on the ground that give you the road or town name 🤣 Good effort and great experience 😁
Such a cool challenge, I love navigation. Have you done TopNav? Or know anyone who has? I've got a Low Land Leader Qual from Mountain Training. Basically LLL is baby Mountain Leader 🤣but hey compass and an OS map good way to spend a day.
Flying IFR (I Follow Roads) 🙂 The big issue with being slow (and flying as low as we do) is we are effected by the wind drift as you said, the problem is the 214 just is no good enough to calculate heading, times or fuel burn to any great degree. I do like to use my map but not to fly to that narrow a band at 2500ft, especially as I can't look down like you can 🙂
These are the kind of exercises that help us level up as pilots! Nice work sir! 😊👍🏼
