Tonight I test the new PXG Xtreme golf ball both on the course and dry ball data, is the new PXG golf ball as good as the Titleist Pro V1?

Ordered some there due here tomorrow 😎
Na I will stick with my q star tour the I use when had a ball fitting and on the test for me was very close to the pro v and tp5 but considerably cheaper
What is the durability like though? I think too at £40 they would have nailed it
Box on order! 13 PXG clubs in my bag so a big fan of the brand (just can’t move putter yet). Ball I’m trying, as do fancy a change from pro v
Will probably try a sleeve or two if I can find an offer but there is not a great deal of incentive to swap out to PXG.
You also struggle not to use ‘IN TERMS’ in every sentence. It’s very annoying ……
How is the durability
As for cost – that’s not what PXG did with their clubs . The made the cost extreme of their clubs. They want the best players , who can justify pro v, to play them before the average player. Then, they will introduce a lower price version. It’s great psychology and it works……..
How bizarre your video arrives on the day I’ve ordered them from PXG. Wetted my appetite now seeing those spin numbers with the sugar daddy II’s. Roll on the weekend 👍🏻
Nice to see PXG sending a full bag setup to you. I've been looking at making that purchase myself. How about doing a video on that experience from top to bottom of what you think of them? Thanks for the review as always great work and I'm looking forward to trying out the new PXG ball. Thanks
I fancy the ball but I can’t warrant paying that much for golf balls just to lose them in a few shots. 🙄
Not sure the price is the problem. If you spin the pxg at 10,000 and the titleist at 7,000, then anyone normal spinning the titleist at 10,000 at that club/ball speed would likely mean they would spin the pxg at 13,000. Makes the ball totally unplayable, whatever the price.
No yellow version so pass, I am sure I will find plenty with the pxg fanboys getting all giddy over the new pxg ball and losing them all over the place.
Waiting for them to come out in yellow 🎉
That’s why you are the BEST Andy,! You give us the straight story.
And you forgot I mention delivery cost if you don’t live by a store, or you have to buy over $99 for free delivery.
Head to Head vs Kirkland?!?!?!
I started playing the Vice Pro Plus ball last year, and are only $29.99 a dozen when I buy 5 boxes. 5 boxes should last me the entire year (hopefully). I like PXG, and like that they are producing a ball, but Vice is the disrupter when it comes to golf balls from direct to consumer IMO.
Totally agree Andy, to make a dent in the Pro V loyalists, you need a ball every bit as good plus significantly cheaper to make people pay attention. If its basically the same price, people would have no reason to change from something they trust.
Great video, I normally hate YT videos about golf balls because either the testing or the data analysis is usually rubbish – a good example is MyGolfSpy who have a superb methodology for testing golf balls but rubbish data analysis.
The third party data Andy flashed up is useless – no idea of the methodology, and as a consequence we have no idea whether any of the differences in the data are statistically significant or not.
Then Andy did his own testing and critically added context about what he normally expects from ball data. Sure the methodology of an average golfer hitting the ball is not technically robust, but it is proper real world data. In the wedges the way he quickly swapped from the PXG ball to ProV1 was excellent and demonstrated a clear difference in spin which if repeated of 10+ shots would be statistically significant but even after 2 or 3 shots looked significant to me.
After trashing MyGolfSpy's data analysis, I would highlight probably the most important thing they found, which stems from their superb testing methodology – ProV1 and ProV1x were the most consistently well made balls tested – there are a lot of golf balls out there from major brands which struggled with manufacturing quality control to the point that too many balls were not even round. Time will tell whether PXG match up to that level of quality control but my bet is that they will be.
Overall seems an excellent ball and priced to compete with the premium balls. I agree with Andy that I would have liked to see them come in at £5-10 cheaper to capture market share but I am sure we will be seeing a lot more from PXG ball line up in the future
They need a bulk buy discount like Vice.
I read what mygolfspy wrote in their review and it's the Kirkland ball but with pxg stamped on it. Hence why it's so spinny. Also pxg have not denied it's the Kirkland Ball.
Should have priced it at 29.99 or 34.99. All I know is I'm not spending 60 for a dozen. 54.99 is too much
This probably is their aggresive price. I'm sure the prices will only go up from here, and probably not long after they get on the shelves.
Great video mate and Would love to see a comparison against the SEED X1 that you've used before and is only €30 as it is also compared to the pro V1
If the Kirkland balls had of came in at this price point I don’t think anyone would’ve bothered with them. PXG has a better reputation but yea. Not cheap enough to experiment with.
For me the feel off the putter is the number one consideration in purchasing golf balls. Most players putt more than any other shot in a round.
Anyone good enough to see/ know the difference in a golf ball is likely playing a variant of the following top shelf ball…. a Pro V, TP5, or a Chrome Soft. And will not play anything less. Usually
Hi Andy, Think I'll be sticking to Seed. Are you still using them?
Not at the price they want. ProV1 has never let me down – so why change
Pxg have landed this ball right on the money. I’m buying a couple dozen. Shame it’s more expensive in the UK than the USA, but I imagine it’s taxes and imports driving the cost up
A Kirkland golf ball in disguise
Pro V1 is $55 USD PXG is $40 USD and $35 for veterans. They are not priced like premium balls. They’re 27-37% cheaper than premium.
Just wait 2 months like all PXG product prices start dropping and like all PXG clubs ,you will find they are ok , some love them some hate them just like any other company ,My experience was the 2 drivers I had didn't last a week ,hated the sound and feel and was quite average compared to my gamers the irons were same for other reasons but at least with a Dozen balls you are not in deep with them , I am sure I will find a few on the course and give them a try.
Playing TM Tour Response 5 to 10 pound cheaper per dozen. Love the feel etc and durable. Would try a sleeve not sure they would be much better than the TR?
Do the Rick shiels test for durability……10 shots in a row out of the bunker
Great review as always. Would you do me a favor. Would you make a camo sweatshirt with your AVG name on it. But make it the tan / sand Marine camo.(since I am a marine) If you do that I would buy a few from you to show off your products.
I also have a golf fundraiser coming up. To raise money for mission 22. Which helps Vets and Soldiers with Suicide prevention. The number 22 comes from how many Vets commit suicide daily.
I would love it if you would like to donate some of your AVG products to give away as prizes. Would bring more attention to your brand and channel. Let me know your thoughts brother.
Keep up the great work brother! 👍
The success or failure of this ball like everything else will be price, from £34 upwards there’s huge competition. It will be interesting to see where in the market they place it. £44.99 is pro v1 ground, why would someone who plays pro v change. I’m sure Mr Parsons knows what he’s doing but think Bob has priced this wrong to get this into golfer’s hands.
$39.99 for the PXG vx. $52.99 for the Pro V1 is a big enough difference that a lot of folks will probably try a dozen. However, my golf game is such that the Kirkland 3 piece is still the best ball for me…
Remember Andy, Pro V1x spins more than the Pro V, maybe compare spin of that one to see how you do
You see, you are using the incorrect Pro-V1. You are using an RCT ball which gives you the correct spin every time. Notice how the RPMS are italicized when hitting the PXG ball. That is because its approximated. When hitting the RCT Titleist ball, its exact spin rates. Try using a regular Pro-V1 and I grantee you'll see no difference between the PXG ball and the regular Pro-V1
Thanks Andy! Good review! I saw on MyGolfSpy they were $40 here stateside! What about the Kirkland? The same plant that makes PXG and Kirkland?
Agree about the pricing. I'd happily give them a go but first of all I need a yellow version for my poor eyes. To be fair I reckon PXG will start throwing about some intro offers when the season here in the UK picks up. Any idea if a yellow version is on the cards?
I got an email from PXG offering their golf ball for $34.99 US Dollars. I think more folks would be willing to spend $34.99 and save $15.00 a dozen.
As a PXG fan, I’d love to give them a try if they were priced more reasonably, quick question though
When you did the wedge shots on the sim, did you use the same PXG Sugar daddy wedge when swapping between balls?
Made in the same factory as the Kirkland ball….same number of dimples…..the only difference is the PXG ball is injection molded urethane vs cast urethane of the Kirkland ball. Would love to see a heads up test between the 2 balls.
For those of us who play Callaway Chrome Soft X…how is the feel of the PXG ball….? Comparable or a harder feel off the club face especially the puttter?
Not surprised to see PXG launch a golf ball, they have always been a disrupter. Typically their pricing has been premium, although they have offered some significant price reductions from time to time. It will be interesting to see if they come out with a more reasonably priced golf ball, perhaps a two piece.
