In this video I will be talking about the mistake people through impact. This video will help you develop more speed and also help you to close the club face properly.

  1. Isn't this going to lead to problems with hooks / non-squared club head when hitting/releasing the ball?

  2. Please settle a question for me …
A friend of mine said he heard you should have a LONG THUMB with your golf grip. I thought I heard you should grip the club with a SHORT THUMB

    What is the preferred grip?
… SHORT THUMB or LONG THUMB?
And what does one over the other result in?

    Another great video 👍🏻
Love the “L to L drill”
Keep up the good work, JKM 👊🏻

  3. This is exactly what I needed to hear. So many teachers tell you to focus on the body. I am at the point where I am using a lot of body and apparently not enough arms and wrists. Your explanation of flipping in the comments helped. It’s almost impossible to supinate and pronate pre impact. I think the only other thing I may need to guard against is too much forearm rotation in the backswing with this method. Thank you. I have been lacking distance for a while and I suspect this is the cause

  4. Awesome, waiting on this video. You are one of the absolute best on YouTube. Thank you taking time to share, explain and demonstrate. Many thanks

  5. I really do like your instruction as its very easy to listen to and to understand. Excellent from you.

  6. I wish I’ve seen this channel 20 year ago. I took a few lessons from “local pros” at the nearby golf courses. When YouTube started getting popular I must have watched at least 5 different golf instruction channels and I would rank them from below average to not bad. Now I’ll have to say this channel is the best I’ve seen. Excellent.

  7. Great video, love these, keep it up. One quick comment: it would have been nice to learn why those positions are a problem (what typically happens to the ball flight or what other issues stem from it) and how the new positions improve the swing.

  8. Thanks for sharing this video. I found it very helpful for me to get the ball speed faster and straight

  9. Very nice video. Last couple of rounds I've been really trying to focus on having good shaft lean/forward hands to compress the ball better on my iron shots, bit it's been leaving me with a really sore lead wrist. Curious on your thoughts of that.

  10. Your videos are always the best do receive a notification each time you post a new video.. We'll have regrets for things we did not participate in…Investment should always be on any creative man's heart for success in life…..

  11. Very good explanation thank you. I’m a big believer of acceleration and deceleration of the hands to get the energy into the clubhead. I actually think about stopping the hands out in front of me as part of my normal swing, it’s always been more than just a drill for me 🙂

  12. Hi Jonathan, I love the impact with trail hand over lead hand ! Can that process be done on course using Full Swing ? Cos I see in other of your videos you recommend keeping club square/bowed wrist through impact!!! I'm Senior so I use turning over wrist at/through impact, which way is CORRECT ? Thanks

  13. Many times I put drill Hit hard stop quick under question. And then what happends after impact would produce more speed: passive ( bend) or active ( rehinge) right wrist? Would you comment

  14. Keeping the head down and behind the ball until well after impact allows the 2 very important moves highlighted in the video to happen. Pronation and supination of the forearms and radial deviation of the wrists. Freddie Couples does this as well as anyone and is one of the reasons his swing looks so smooth and effortless.

  15. What’s interesting is that if you watch someone like Mike Bender he really promotes (I think) a follow through right after impact that you say is not ideal. That is, to really turn your body but to keep the shaft parallel to the ground and clubface pointed almost up towards the sky. Am I misinterpreting one of you, or would you say you disagree with his teaching?

  16. How does this lesson relate to a) “flipping” the club? What is the difference between this proper release and a “flip”? And b) this seems to be opposite of what Gangkas teaches with using the body’s rotation through the ball to release the club.

  17. Very well explained video. Never thought about the right hand rolling over the left & left thumb toward target. Going to take a practice shot & see whether I do that or could do it better. Regards!

  18. could you make a video as to how that move causes a major hook unless………?

  19. Absolutely imperative for squaring club face, solid contact and max distance. Well done 👍……..

  20. Fantastic video, I think every weekend/novice golfer should watch/tattoo this video. Most golf instructor videos are geared toward more experienced golfers, who already have natural lag, and good wrist movement. I barely progressed for 2 years because I thought releasing my wrist this way meant I was flipping at ball. It is my opinion the more novice golfer should overuse the wrist, once it begins to feel like a more natural/dynamic movement then start working on shaping the ball, wrist control etc.

  21. Hi mate great video! Is this technique applied for the woods as well?

  22. Hey Jonathan, good stuff!
Can you do a video on how to hit a consistent fade & a drill or practice routine for it? Thank you

  23. Great stuff! Really enjoy your videos. I’ve been struggling with this concept for quite a while now. This L to L or rolling release was what I grew up with. Old school. But I’ve taken on the body release / hold the lag style. Sort of Brookes Koepka vs Gary Player if you can visualise that. Now I’m very flippy through impact. I keep his push shots with the driver and wondering where my draw has gone. I recalled my old teacher saying’Release the club’ and let the wrists be more active. Result: strong, penetrating draw shape.
Your lesson gives me confidence to go back to what I know. The whole release thing can be very confusing so thanks for explaining it so well.

  24. thanks your videos are good, but im confused. I thought Rob C, said the L to L drill is bad for stack and tilt B/C it teaches to much movement and not enough rotation?
