3 great clubs all with a different purpose.
In this weeks #tourtrucktuesday upload I explain the process to test & differentiate between the 7 wood, the hybrid club & the long iron.

Great vid Trottie, middle ground is where most should be I imagine. Also there’s a reason why most LPGA pro’s carry 2 hybrids & if we look at their swing speeds they’re far more likely to be equal to or faster than most amateurs so they’re likely a good bag set up to copy
Great job, add 15 to my HC to yours lol , tuck my tail ,hybrid all day ! gotta be Honest! Thanks Man! Swing speed , easy to get it where you want it to go !
Why don't you make a 7 wood in the Stealth plus wood help you have all the help but a bit less spin
Used to love my blade 2 and 3 irons back in the day. I’ve been using a 7 wood for a while now and it’s great for me from 185 to 205. A lot of the times I feel it’s a scoring club on par 3”s. I’ll attack almost any pin with this thing. Not to mention it’s a 2004 model. So it’s super compact and has a v shaped leading edge. Super versatile.
Been thinking 7 wood for while but can't find one that doesn't look left at address.
Thanks Trottie. Great summary of the "why" regarding 3 clubs with similar lofts.
I'm quite steep also but tend to not release the club well with my hands ahead so I struggle to launch a long iron high enough. Went to a 7 wood last year from a 3 hybrid and its been a revelation for my game. Would LOVE to see a Ti 7 wood for that higher flight with a little less spin.
I have a spot in the bag I am trying to fill and stuck between a 7 wood and a hybrid, although in the past I tended to hook hybrids so I might be leaning towards a 7 wood. Great video, Trottie!
Thanks… would like to see the DHY in the comparaison (as I have 2 of them!)
Great video. I prefer and love my 3 iron. It’s always been reliable and when the driver isn’t performing, I play the 3i for rest of the round and can consistently get 240-250 from it and still score very well.
Great content as always Trottie!!! Can’t wait to get to the kingdom in GA this summer for a fitting!
I like the hybrid as my course is generally 15-20 kmph + most days
I have a brand new Sim2 7w and Blue Velocore shaft to put in it. Look forward to playing with it. Usually it is pretty calm with no more than 10mph winds here.
I put a 7 wood in the bag this week but it's course specific. there are a few courses I play where I need the 215-225 range pretty consistently. The longest iron I play is a GI 5 iron so the 7 wood is a great gap between the 5irion and my 5 wood
I’ve been thinking about a hybrid for a while. But then I absolutely crush my Nike Vapor Speed 3 iron and think… maybe not haha. But I would like to see an on course comparison for myself.
outstanding video. great topic, great explanation and demonstration. well done!
It's not like you don't have the resources and the wherewithal to get a 7 wood in your "spec"
If it makes your point why keep saying that????
Great video! I think that long irons are great on Links course off the tee. The 7 wood is great on course with firm greens, but its good in all lies. I find that the rescue is not a great option because its like no man's land. In some rough conditions yes, and on course with lots of shallow bunkers on par 5s. The thing is too, is modern lofts are so much stronger than in the past.
Nice video. It is normally windy where I play, I love my 3 iron but a hybrid just gives that bit more versatility. A decent set up allows you to hit the super low or high shot along with something in the middle.
Thanks for the info man! I love my 4 hybrid, high launch shaft to really rip at a ball and off the tee it is great. But when I do play into wind, that 3 iron is a sick low spin option off the tee to just roll a ball 200-250 out there. I didn't get the differences as much until I watched this video on launch & spin. Now I know why the 3 iron is the safe option on a windy day off the tee.
Not a fan of Taylormade products but your knowledge and explanation can benefit and be applied to any brand and any standard of golfer.. love the channel.. 👍👍
Hey trotti I just got fitted by TaylorMade and have ordered the P770 in Dynamic gold 120 in 1 degree flat. Pumped!
I feel like I could have benefited from trying more shafts:
#1) what is the difference in the dynamic gold 120 and the KBS 120?
#2) Fitter said the p770 were running way behind, I won't get mine until May/June will they be the 2022 version P770?
After Trottie hit the hybrid with draw he said you can’t do that with the 7 wood ? Mentioned sometime about cg location but didn’t finish..??
Love the content, as always, please keep it up. The intro’s audio tho had my ears bleeding at 10pm in bed
Never could hit long irons or hybrids. So glad I was able to find a 7wood. It's been a great fun club to hit
You work for TM, why wouldn't you have each club in your specs to demonstrate and compare?
Class as always Trottie. . . For those that hate 5s, 7 woods like myself, go get a rescue. Don’t get the Max, just get the ‘pro’ edition with the adjustable hosel. Trottie can’t ‘really’ tell you this either, but go look for a GAPR Mid 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 they are absolutely amazing! Still a great club and waaay easier to hit than it looks
Helpful info. Thank you.
Had my first albatross with my 4 hybrid, love that club. got a PXG 7 wood in the bag for the first time, simulator numbers have been great, and just picked up a stealth 5 wood that demoed well.
C Trott
Quick question I value your answer on..
If someone were struggling with lag, could it be beneficial to go with a regular flex instead of the stiff flex they were fitted into to create more lag??
Trottie, it would be nice to have a 7w that's 39 to 40" length to bring the peak height down, especially if you are steep. I know you can't real it adjust the lie but I think it would really be a weapon at that length for average golfers. Lee trevino used to play a 6w that was 2 inches shorter and he could work the balls anyway he wanted.
TROTTIE!!! HOOK A FELLOW SAN DIEGAN UP WITH A USED SIM 2 DRIVER!!!!!
Now I play a 5 hybrid and 7 wood – both ping G410s. Much better height and consistency instead of my old 3&4 iron
What i love about his videos is that its all one take, no BS just genuine
What launch monitor are you using?
👀 how about a 4 iron that’s 22 degrees and a 5 wood lol. Am I the only one that sticks a players distance 4 iron in the set to have a bit of forgiveness And a nice nuke off the tee club ?
❤️ Hermosa eleccion 4.FO/Elizeid de mejor

Sorprendente .
What is the standard Swing weight on Taylormade Hybrids? I'm playing old Cobra f7 hybrids because they are D2 ish. Seems like most hybrids are D0?
Get rid of the 60 degree and throw in the 3 iron and the 7 wood 😝💪
Surprised you didn’t touch on club head speed between the 3
I am a higher handicapper and have found that a 7 wood ( 21 degree) is my best friend, if I am in the ruff it will dig the ball out and get some distance and in the fairway it picks the ball up so well. I also play a 9 wood ( 23 degree) , yes a 9 wood it is an amazing club. I do not do well with my lower degree irons. I do carry a hybrid ( 25 degree).
Long iron = shank/hosel rocket/small sweet spot. Hybrid= no hosel, no shank. Hot face. Bigger sweet spot, but not big enough for a high handicapper. 5-7 wood= Longer shaft. Bigger head and sweet spot. Easiest for high handicapper to hit.
Love the eye opener on being steep! I've been told I'm steep and I tend to hit irons better! I sometimes get too much floaty spin on my hybrids and fairway wood! Cheer's
Great video, Trottie! I think most amateur players just struggle to produce the clubhead speed to hit long irons well enough. Your clubhead speed with that 3 iron is roughly my driver speed and that and forgiveness is why I carry a 3 hybrid. Granted my 5i is 22° so extremely strong but the CG is designed to get the ball up much easier (Taylormade '21 M4s). By the way, I was super happy to find your personal channel today. Subscribed immediately, my friend!
I like hybrids since you can hit them well out of the rough
You are a distinctive voice in golf YouTube. I love your sincere insight and presentation. It’s only a matter of time before the cavalry comes for this channel.
After watching “golf sidekick “ he convinced me to get a 7 wood, and I’m glad I did. So easy to hit and get it up in the air. My 3 iron is in the trunk of my car now.
