Golf Tip – Why to exit and release left in golf swing.
Alistair Davies golf uk top 50 golf coach shares with you why he believes you should exit left to create the correct body and club release in golf.
Exit Like Ben Hogan and Alex Noren. We swing the club on a circle so releasing the club to the left allows it to follow the circle. This allows for the correct hand action in the golf swing.
Follow Alistair’s tried and tested golf tips to improve your golf swing.

  1. Really good video going to try this. Could you do a video on the wrists in the swing please if possible

  2. great video on existing left Alistair, I'm endeavoring to get my wife to exist left but she does swing out to in, you spoke about working on a release patterns first, any tips on how to go about that would be greatly appreciated. Keep these videos coming I get more out of your methods and interpretation than anyone else I have come across on YouTube. Many thanks

  3. Great stuff! Your videos are easy to understand, and right on point. I life the exit left idea, but have a problem with over rotating the hands thru impact – the face of my club is actually pointing down, how do I isolate the hands and stop the rotation.

  4. Alistair – This video and your Portugal video on the same subject have really got through to me. I have always been a swing out to the right person and afraid to exit left in case of an “across the ball” slice. Exiting left and keeping the left shoulder lower have made a huge difference to my performance. Three of four recent rounds have been below my handicap and I have lost 2 shots. My confidence is now up thanks to your excellent advice.

  5. Hi Alistair, how is the drill station set up in relation to the ball/target line? Thanks

  6. This creates a more fade type of shot for me, any reason for concern there? Should I be hitting a draw? Thanks

  7. Can you please tell me how to exit left without occasionally pulling or pull/hooking the ball. I've been exiting left for a while.. but I now have a problems with pulls. I am not sure if maybe I am too quick when I do the pulls, or if you have any advice to counter the left movement.

  8. Thanks for the video but this looks like such an over the top move.. should something else happen from the top before we start swinging left to avoid the over the top?

  9. Won’t this promote a fade or slice of the ball? Can the ball be drawn using this type of swing? Thanks

  10. One of the most important concept in golf. Ben Hogan said "Reverse every natural instinct and do the opposite of what you are inclined to do, and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing."

  11. What you have here is a very slight movement. Yes, body and then arms rotate left but you need a square clubface at and beyond impact. If you just try and exif left it will cause nightmares

  12. Hello, i see your move " crack the whip"; after a little pause, or slow down at impact your hips and other parts of body continue turning left (for control, balance i guess) Others suggest never stop turning, otherwise it is hard to keep the club head from bypassing the hands. Would you suggest something more? Thnks!!!

  13. Allister, I think the reason I was still pulling the ball flight left was because I was giving it some left hand extension at impact. Am I correct in assuming that the hands which are ahead of the ball at impact (i.e. slightly bowed left hand) should maintain this same hand position after impact until momentum takes over and they naturally flip over your left shoulder, basically passive hands through and after impact? I tried it and the ball went basically straight but I still had the urge to give it some welly which caused the left hand to extend or cup after impact. Thanks.

  14. I occasionally have a problem with early extension and hence the shanks. A low handicap friend of mine says that I need to rotate more and think about hitting the ball left (similar to exit left). Do you think that this might fix my problem?

  15. Hi excellent video. Can you advise how far you have the alignment sticks away from the golf ball?

  16. Alister, am I correct in assuming that your club face is slightly open at impact to stop you pulling it left?

  17. When I do this I seem to pull the ball left, I was wondering if I'm suppose to keep the clubface aiming at target line longer and not let it turn over??

  18. Man I’m struggling with this. I used to be a single digit with my well grooved but overly steep downswing. Career and family made me limit my time playing for years but now that I’ve retired I’m working on my game again. Started back with a instructor hopefully I will see improvement soon. Thanks, I’ll set up some alignment sticks and keep working.
