With a wealth of experience across all age groups, Declan is co-head performance coach at Donegal Physiotherapy & Performance located in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. He has been coaching and training since 2004 developing an extensive coaching record having worked with clients ranging from four year olds, the general public and at the elite level with Donegal Senior GAA . He has also worked for the IRFU and Ulster Rugby from 2010 to 2013, and has a Master’s Degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology.

Declan worked with the Donegal Senior GAA team during the successful 2012 All Ireland Championship season, and held a role as a Strength & Conditioning Coach and Performance Analyst, leading into winning a Ulster Senior Championship in 2014 before losing out in the All Ireland Final. He has also had other roles with Donegal, working with Jim McGuinness in opposition analysis along with providing sport science support, as well as strength & conditioning coach for various Donegal minor teams. Declan trained 13 athletes to national medals in athletics in 2019.

The importance of linking the fitness and conditioning of players at a young age throughout their playing career to adult
Having a consistent and unified approach to a player’s fitness and conditioning throughout the club
Focussing on the quality and age-appropriateness of basic core, agility, movement, flexibility, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning and exercises at all ages
The scientific (sport science) basis behind this, the reasons for doing it, and of how to achieve the best results
How to include these fitness and conditioning elements within practice sessions, and what to do and not do
