In 2015 I was blessed with the opportunity to chat with the golf legend that was Doug Sanders. We started to talk about golf and life, and after a few minutes, I was struck by just how vivid his recollections were. He was painting pictures that were just as colourful as the clothes he was famous for wearing on the great links.
We carried on talking behind an exposed grandstand next to the range at the Open Championship, where Justin Rose was going through his paces. The venue? Well, St Andrews of course. I resisted asking Doug the question that he faced for almost fifty years. Doug was a complete gentleman, was as sharp in the mind as he was in his dress sense, and grateful for a lifetime in the game. Sorry to see his passing earlier this week.
