Q.
The player’s ball is at rest on top of an immovable obstruction (sprinkler head), what options does the player have?
.
.
A.
The player could play it as it lies, or
They could take an unplayable, and choose one of the three options available to them, or
The player could take free relief as per Rule 16.1.
To take free relief, the player must determine their Nearest Point of Complete Relief and drop their ball within a club-length of that spot, no nearer the hole, so that they have full relief from any interference of that condition.
Note: relief from a condition does not always mean that a player has a right to a good lie thereafter.
