First of all lets clear one thing up, not too long ago I believed in a perfect posture, but this is not realistic. There is no perfect but there are good ranges and ranges which either don’t look great, cause pain directly, or cause indirect dysfunction elsewhere in the body.
Poorly aligned hips for example could cause pain in the neck or ankle. In fact a very large proportion if not the majority of problems start from the hips, particularly lifestyle related pain and injury.
If you don’t get pain or injury (YET), poor posture could affect your sports performance and hold you back from your best.
Unless you have a very specific postural issue which needs equally specific attention, then a balanced and rounded approach is best to balance the body, iron out some dysfunction and build awareness in the mind as well as muscle memory.
My below video is a rounded Pilates approach to posture, from the standing set up, through to some of the more challenging exercises, this is a great routine whether you are on your feet all day. sat at a desk, or behind a steering wheel.
Maybe you are just addicted to scrolling on your phone, playing candy crush (tech neck) or even just reading. It all has a huge impact on the body.
What you do with the body most is what your body adapts to, hence posture change manifesting. So regular position change and corrective movement is key.
Of course do speak to a physical therapist if you do have specific and recurring issues, happy to recommend someone if needed. With any luck they will likely recommend Pilates!
