Wil Collins raised the trophy at the 2013 Dakota Dunes Open presented by SaskTel on the PGA Tour Canada schedule. En route to this milestone win, Wil has played several tours including the PGA tour in 2009 and his prior event to winning was the US Open played at the Merion Golf Club.

Following his appearance at Merion, Wil had a few weeks to prepare for the Dakota Dunes event and he used that time to focus his mind and prepare for what would become his first PGA Tour Canada victory.

Wil talks candidly about his mental game and let’s us in on the secrets to his success. Simple, yet specific and focused. His win was the result of well planned thinking and not a random occurrence built on random thoughts. In the interview Wil shares his recipe for success including:

-How he used his US Open experience to elevate his mindset in Saskatchewan.
-One key element in his pre-shot routine that boosts confidence and results.
-His mental game plan going into the Dakota Dunes event.
-Some great mantra’s that really focus his attention.
-What he did on the 7th tee that turned his final round poor start (+1 after 6 holes) into a championship performance (-7 for the final 12 holes) to win.
-Dr. J. Brunza and the power of visualization – how Wil uses it to relax and refresh his mind.
-How he strives to be fearless and carefree.

Wil’s mental preparation and focus gave him the edge he needed and the outcome he was looking for. His final word is for all players to consider spending more time on the mental side of the game in place of time on the range. It was time well invested for Wil.
