I was taught the rules of golf this way…
Play the course as you find it, and play the ball as it lies. If you can't do either do what's fair.
That simplifies the game, and puts greater emphasis on playing honorably…
It's a shame that more players don't adhere to playing the game with simplicity and honor ..

I play jv golf for my high school and literally everyone cheats. It's mostly just saying you got a different score then you did like some people will say they got a bogey even though it was a triple. I try to call them out if it's blatant but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter that much to me so if they are hard set on it I don't push it.

I was following Ajays group on Sunday at the API. After 10, when he seemed frustrated, he started making quite a few putts which he may have "occasionally accidentally" touched. Me and another guy both looked at each other like 🤨🤔. That rule is literally worded so it can never be enforced though…

Wyndam Clark grounding his club behind the ball is absolutely not a penalty nor is it cheating whatsoever. There is no rule in golf that prohibits a player from grounding his club behind the ball more than once so in theory you could do it a hundred times and there's nothing wrong with it nor should it even be looked at as doing anything wrong. If golf decides to make a rule saying you can only ground a club behind the ball three times or something like that then it would be a problem but he should not come under any scrutiny for that.

Just play everything as it lies. Make it simple and fair.

There's absolutely NO reason to play if at any moment you feel you need to secretly manipulate a situation just to get a better score!

Clark though is living dangerously with his trick of moving grass behind the ball, as he is almost just as likely to move his ball when moving the grass.
But he seems to know exactly how to avoid that

In junior golf, i lost three tournaments one summer to cheats.
In high school golf, i was omitted from varsity team because the coach did not believe a starting football player could play like me unless i cheated (i shot 75 at the district tournament and we would have qualified for state)
Senior year high school, our team missed state by one stroke because the coach put me on the individual low stroke competition (and not on team competition). the person who was put in my spot had turned in some really low scores during the two weeks before the tournament, latter i was told BY HIS BROTHER , he had cheated every round they had played together. I had gone to state in track just before our golf tournament and the coach was mad at me for not being at practice EVERY day prior to the tournament (i shot a 78, and we still would have qualified for the state meet)
My point: shut up and play or don't play but. Cheaters are always going to cheat
College boys won the local scramble 3-4 weeks in a row, winning a little over $100 each, each time, until some of us watched them warm up and it was obvious. So the owner of the course followed their scramble 5some and they did not break par. (The winning team was often 8-9 under for a 9 hole scramble)
Cheaters goin' cheat. But even worse, when someone who is in charge, assumes you cheat…WHEN YOU DON'T. ENOUGH

DJ taking relief from heavy rough in the US Open because he said his line to hit over a tempory tv tower. Takes drop into the fairway and proceeds to hit it over the tv tower anyway.
DJ taking an usually wide stance when chipping out sideways so his foot was on a path, gets relief to drop with a clear line to the green.
Reed sitting in a grassy tuft.. I plan to play this shot left handed, so i'd be standing on that path over there. Gets relief and plays the shot right handed.
Players should be forced to play the shot they intended to play before free relief is applied.

Years ago, I was playing in a local amateur qualifier. On the 12th hole it started pouring rain. Play was delayed 2 hours and in that time, 3 inches of rain came down. The rules officials went through all the rules to deal with standing water, plugged balls etc. A player raised his hand and asked, “Why aren’t we just playing lift, clean, and place in the fairways?” The rules official responded, “That’s the stuff they do on the PGA Tour. We are playing a real golf tournament here.” 😂😂😂 I died.

I was playing in a state golf tournament my senior year and one of the guys I was playing with, when I asked what he got on a hole, he would say 1 stroke under what he got on a couple of holes so I would correct him. Then after about 12 holes I starting messing with him and I knew what score he got on the hole and I wouldn’t intentionally ask him if he got one under his actual score and he would sit there and think and then say yes. It was hilarious and then I would be like, wait, let me trace your strokes and would recount All of his strokes in front of him and he would be like “ Oh your right, my bad”

Honestly i've met some of the nicest dudes and some of the worst cheaters playing hs golf. The shenanigans are endless lmao and I've seen 2 8 irons thrown into a lake on separate occasions by diff ppl (what luck ikr)

Woods having the crowd move a boulder was one of the most disgraceful acts I have ever seen. It was allowed only because it was Tiger.
