Ghyll just miss out on golf podium amid dramatic tie at top

GHYLL Golf Club came fourth at the Bradford Union 9-Hole Clubs Team Championship on Saturday.

Ghyll’s total of 246 was the same as Rawdon, but the latter came fifth on countback.

The Ghyll team consisted of Billy Aitken, Liam Bowditch, Brandon Cocker and Steve Greenwood.

The team scored consistently, with Greenwood (+9), Cocker (+10) and Aitken (+11) making up the team total of +30.

Bowditch’s 85 (+13) did not quite make the cut to count towards the team score.

Ghyll almost made the podium, but South Bradford pipped them to third with an overall total of 244.

But the real drama came between the top two.

Clayton and Bradford Moor both scored 236, tying at the head of the leaderboard with +20.

Ultimately, it was tournament hosts Clayton who won on countback, Terry Brushwood, Josh McAvan and Andy Town making up the winning trio.

They edged out South Bradford’s Andy Busfield, Dean Jackson and Iain Walker.
