Ping i540 Irons Review! Plus LAB VZN.1i Putters and Graphite Design Shaft Sightings!

On this episode of Club Junkie, I dive into the brand new Ping i540 irons and talk about where they fit in the lineup, the performance on the course, and who I think they are really made for. There is a lot to love and maybe one complaint in the new i540 irons.

The show also covers the new LAB VZN.1i putters that have started showing up, plus some new Graphite Design Tour AD shafts spotted out on the PGA Tour and what makes them interesting. Wrapping things up, I might swap a few shafts into some putters and talk through how those changes might completely alter feel and performance.

  1. Cheers brother! Always appreciate the content you definitely need more subscribers but hopefully people realize you and David Dusek are hidden gems in the golf space! Rock on brother good luck with the league!

  2. Loved the i540 review. I hit them back to back with the i240s a few weeks ago and was really surprised by the performance. Despite the 4° loafed difference, I actually found the i540 launching higher and peaking higher than the i240. I guess it’s all the weight they slugged into the bottom that is really helping boost the launch.

I would disagree with Knudson on one point, though. Heel to toe, the i540 looks a tiny bit bigger than i240 to me. I also think it is a touch more forgiving off center, which — as someone who has played i230s since they launched — was a real eye-opener.

The main thing is, I just found them really easy to hit. I think they start to make a lot more sense for the bag if you get them at their standard lofts and just figure out your gapping by hitting the 7-iron where you previously would have hit a 6, and so on. Might have to play one less long iron and an additional wedge to make it work, but they’re long enough that you can afford it.
