Ryan Swan of the Coquitlam LIttle League and Coquitlam Reds general manager Wes Taylor get ready for the June 5 golf tournament fundraiser in Coquitlam to benefit both baseball clubs.
Two competitive baseball clubs for youth in Coquitlam hope to swing in $15,000 at a golf tournament next month.
And the Coquitlam Little League (CLL) and Coquitlam Reds are now seeking players and sponsors for the June 5 event at Green Tee Westwood Plateau (3251 Plateau Blvd.).
It’s the second time CLL has hosted the annual fundraiser and the first time it’s partnered with the Reds, which is managed by Wes Taylor, the president and executive director of the BC Premier Baseball League (BC PBL).
The clubs plan to split the proceeds from the golf tourney to pay for field equipment and operations, said Ryan Swan, CLL’s vice president of facilities and community.
“It pays for all the things that make our teams better,” Swan told Freshet News today, May 6, during an interview at the Mundy Park field the Reds play on.

Specifically, some funds will go toward the cost of a new CLL technical director, Swan said, while Taylor said several big-ticket items at Mundy Park Field 4 need to be replaced, such as a baseball batting practice turtle.
Last year’s golf tournament brought in $13,000 for CLL, with alumnus Dave Blake and his team winning the inaugural title.
For this year’s round, which starts at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a buffet dinner at the clubhouse, some active CLL and Reds players will be onsite to carry the golf bags for the adult participants and help with the activities.
