To be honest, the description of a shaft and the ACTUAL performance have always, for me and a good few friends, been chalk and cheese! I should need a low launch, low spin shaft BUT often a shaft with that exact description on paper has been useless because, as you know as a pro, we all have different club deliveries, speeds etc resulting in description and reality clashing! I’m sure the fitting will go well! Please take the Ebay shaft for them to critique! 👍🏼👍🏼
Oban are great shafts i am currently playing a Kiyoshi Gold in a QI10 and it's a cracking shaft. I've used Devotion and Isawa Redin the past. They are quite niche though in their specs. i imagine you could pick one up for about £100 – £150.
I know you told me it’s all good, but I see the muppets with comments have returned.😉Paul
I did get an upgraded shaft at my driver fitting last year. VA Composites Nemesys Counter balanced and just never felt like I got along with it. Went back for another club fitting and had the fitter revisit the driver. Same guy as before and he could see he put me in the wrong shaft. Put a standard Ventus Blue 5-S in the driver and instantly could feel a difference. Could feel the club head during the swing and launch and spin were still great. Sometimes an upgraded shaft could make a load of difference from the standard OEM/stock, but also for a weekend hacker like myself where I don't always feel like I have the same swing round to round, I didn't see any huge benefits.
In a fitting, the Graphite Design VF worked the best for me. However, I did not buy it. I did another fitting, and that shaft stood out again. I got a chance to try it out on my own with my head versus current shaft, and it beat my gamer, so it became my current gamer. I wouldn't buy one just to buy one.
I made this error with an Autoflex shaft. Did a load of research, knew the shaft which (in theory) should suit my swing (speed/flex etc) and finally got hold of one on eBay. Just couldn't get it working even with getting the swing weight to the recommend level. A fairly expensive experiment although did manage to (just about) get my money back by selling to someone else trying the same thing
I always thought you were a better iron and wedge player.
Ohhhhh love a shaft 👀👀👀…purple Oban remember that bad boy
I have a thing for the Fujikura Pro 2.0 Shafts. Luckily, they are only $50us now on amazon. It's a great mid-range shaft.
Another great video James, I am actually going for a driver shaft fit this afternoon
James the black is a stout Oban! I have all the Oban as I love them and with my fast tempo 110ss it was a bit much for me honestly the Black I found a bit numb & to boardy …
but DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! Find a Kiyoshi Purple for FW woods! Hands down best shaft for them! Smooother than silk, stable & even in the 75/05 (XS) absolutely mule kicks the ball up! I have the 75/05 in my 5w tipped 1", thr 75/04(s) tipped 2" and the cheater club to mess mess my buddies on tight course the Purple 85/05(cs) tipped 2" in my 9w! They're so good!
The driver my favorite is the Oban Hashimoto it's gorgeous matte black has way more feel than the Kiyoshi black & for the TD Max which needs a bit more spin and lift (the TD max is so low!). The Hashimoto helps a ton! The other one Devotion 85/X is good in my 19° UW as I want that club to send it super low. Oban is SO slept on! The feel is insane.
No. Stock shaft is fine.
James. I'm not sure you realize this but there isn't anyone on the planet that tinkers, or buys and tries as many golf clubs and shafts as you. I wouldn't be surprised if you have multiple storage units or even a warehouse filled with clubs at this point. Don't get me wrong, I do find it entertaining. I think you've been fortunate to play as well as you do considering all the changes in equipment. I think we need some more 9 or 18 hole matches mixed in. Cheers!
I got fitted for the Tensei 1k black 65g X-Stiff, but I'm waiting for my ZXi with Hzrdus Black 70g X-Stiff to arrive tomorrow. I might buy the Tensei, or I might buy a Titleist TSR4 with a Tensei in it instead. 🤣
I’d say over £350 🙈
Always gotta worry fakes.
If it isn't a Diamana it's not worth it 🤷
I love tinkering with shafts on my Titleist TSR2. Tried Mitsubishi Tensei Blue, then Ventus Red (Taylormade spec). Favourite at the moment is a Fujikura Speeder NX 50g stiff (also Taylormade version) after I had good success with a similar spec KBS TD. All Ebay purchases.
It's alway hit and miss buying premium shafts from anywhere, but I honestly believe you can get lucky more often than not. This is why proper fitting is important when affordable. I got lucky buying a shaft from ebay based upon my swing type then finding a shaft profile that fits me. I got lucky with my purchase of a Diamana GT 60s that was 1.5 inches short from a normal driver and that was the plan as the shaft was going into my paradym ai smoke ti 340 mini driver. The lucky part is it worked better than I thought. I can get agressive as I want and it never lets me down. $150 for a premium shaft is awesome as I can't at anytime afford the $300 plus for a upgrade shaft and sriver or just the shaft alone.
£130 for a golf stick!! 😥 💦 I think you’ve been shafted
After a Callaway fitting, the shaft that came with the Quantum Max TD was a stiff Denali Frost. I thought it was amazing. I just learn to not mess with things that work.
Guessing £200
I enjoy the tinkering. The issue as a left handed golfer ordering online is a nightmare because you rarely find a deal on a shaft that has the correct adapter. Callaway and taylormade have specific LH adapters. Titleist does it a bit different which is helpful.
I do just fine with the stock ping shaft in the 425 max driver cut down 1 inch.
You should try a KBS PGW
You young-uns with your quick tempo can handle that Kiyoshi Black. I settled on a Kiyoshi Gold for the lighter weight as well as the lower kick-point. That and the Hashimoto are the ones in my Titleists.
Only someone from NY would be so rude!
