Picked up the game at 10 when my dad decided to learn. I'll be 39 in a few weeks. I played on the high school team but only got okay, and then when I couldnt play for free anymore (worked at a club through HS and College) I took a long break where I only played once or twice a year until about 4 years ago.

I was late leaving the house because it took me longer to build and hang a gate for my backyard fence than i thought it would. So I was sore, sweaty, and had no time to warm up. Honestly, I considered cancelling and taking a nap instead. Got to the course, took two 15 foot putts on the practice green and drained them both. "Huh, might go low today," I said to myself before I went to meet my buddies at the first tee.

First swing of the day was a dead straight shot, 275 by GPS. This continued more or less the entire 9, my usual average is closer to 220. My decades long pull hook problem has miraculously resolved itself for 4 rounds in a row now. If you hit 100% of the fairways it turns out golf gets really easy.

I stuck my approaches within 8 feet on the first two holes for straightforward birdies. The birdie on 5 was a 25-30 footer, drilled it dead center. The par on 8 was a tricky 20 foot down hill slider that went in, rolled it perfectly, dead center. Had 15 putts on the day, with one 3 putt because the #7 green was designed by a sadist, and I just don't practice putting up 4 foot mini-golf style sloped ridges that often.

I have been chasing even par so long I don't even know how to process it. I'll card a 38 once or twice a year, and once managed a 37, but those always came down to some miraculous chip in or flukey shit. This one seemed legit, right down to draining a questionable 4 footer for bogey on 9 to "save" the round. I know its only 9 holes, but man it feels so good after all these years to even manage that.

Anyway, can't wait for it all to go off the rails and shoot like 54 the next 4 times I go out.
