EDIT: I am terrible at math so it's actually 103 not 114
Played for the first time today off the red tees (I had to because of the bad weather in Ireland, yesterday was our first day without rain since before Christmas so the tee boxes were in bad shape), shot 103, irons were fine, teeing off with the driver was horrendous, I hit maybe 3 or 4 good drives. Got 2 pars, managed to get a GIR on a Par 3 which was like the 17th in Sawgrass but from WISH and I still managed to 4 putt it lol. Looking forward to getting more range time in and maybe a couple of lessons teeing off.
I personally don't think it's a bad score since I only picked up golf in January and this is my first ever round

If that’s a true score you have a gift. There are people that play regularly that shoot 114.
Been playing for a long time and there are entire rounds where I don’t get two pars.

Congrats. That’s a fantastic score for your very first round. Driver is one of the hardest clubs to hit well, especially for beginners. You have the right mindset on practicing that. In the meantime, there’s nothing wrong with teeing off with an iron until you get better at hitting driver. I play off a 7 hdcp, and there are still days where the driver just isn’t working, so I put it away and tee off with a 3 iron instead.
103 on your first time out, even from the reds is a pretty great score.

There’s a pretty good chance that since you are new you don’t know how to apply proper penalty strokes yet.

This is perfectly reasonable. If you hit 3-4 good shots, you had a great day. I’ll warn you… those 3-4 shots out of 114 is where the addiction begins.
