You have to hand it to Tasmanian professional golfer Mat Goggin. It took him 15 years of delicate negotiations with government departments, local councils, Hobart Airport, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and various other state bodies to get the permits to build 7 Mile Beach, a links golf course a few minutes’ drive east of Hobart’s airport.
A lesser man may have wilted, but late last year, Goggin and his co-investors – CSL chairman Brian McNamee and Stewart Ginn Jnr – opened their new course to the public at $290 a round, and Goggin couldn’t be happier.
