It’s Australian GP week – and the latest change to the 2026 F1 tech regs is now confirmed: the heat-expansion, compression ratio-beating PU companies (Merc, RBPT Ford) will have six months to enjoy their advantage. That’s kjust enough time to create something solid – and too short a time for the opposition even to think about adaptation. Join Peter for live questions and comments as F1 readies itself for its brave new world of 50 per cent electrification, charging, deployment, over-ride and active-aero. We’ll respond to as many comments as possible but will be prioritising members and superchats. To join the channel, simply press the “join” tab next to “subscribe”.

  1. I’m sick of hearing about compression ratio, and I can’t believe they changed the rule. We’ve known about thermal expansion for 100s of years. As soon as they said “compression ratio trick,” I knew it was going to be heat related. I guarantee every engine manufacturer was trying to make it work, and formula 1 absolutely knew they left it open in the original rule.
