Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason golf team saved its best for last, moving up the leaderboard to finish fifth at the Dorado Beach Collegiate Tournament held in Puerto Rico. Led today by Philipp Krone’s 5-under-par 67, the Patriots carded a seven-under-par score, second best score in the final round, to jump ahead of Butler on the final day of the three-day event.
Krone (75-74-67=216) delivered seven birdies, along with two bogeys, to earn his best collegiate round (67) and best finish (13th) in his rookie campaign.
David Fuhrer II was the Patriots top finisher at the event in 7th place, besting his 29th place finish at the 2025 tournament. Fuhrer was consistent throughout the tournament carding two subpar 70s and a 74 to finish in the red (-2).
Vaughn McMeans finished just outside the top 20 individually, tied for 21st. After an even-par 72 in the first round, McMeans carded a 75 in the second and 73 in the final round on the par 72, 7,122-yard TPC Dorado Beach Sugarcane Course.
JJ Powell rounded out the scoring with a one-under-par 71 in the final round.
Stetson (-15) earned top team honors by eight strokes over second place Southern Mississippi (-7).
