SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the eighth consecutive year, the Sacramento State women’s golf team will get to compete on its home course as the Hornets will take part in the Causeway Invitational on Feb. 23-24 at Del Paso CC. The first day will have two rounds beginning with shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. A single round will be held on Tuesday.
Sacramento State has had a lot of success at the tournament. The team won the crown at the first event in 2019 (then known as the Gunrock Invitational). The Hornets added a second team title in 2024 and also has three second-place finishes (2020, 2021, 2025).
Corine Viden was the medalist in 2019 and Sneha Sharan tied for first in 2024. The team has also had four other top-five showings with Caitlin Maurice tying for fifth in 2023 and placing second a year ago. Tess Blair was third in 2020 and improved one position the following year. The lowest 54-hole total for the team at the event belongs to Blair who shot 68-72-66-206 in 2021.
Sacramento State is one of five teams currently among the top 100 in the Scoreboard collegiate rankings. Colorado enters at 47th, marking the Buffaloes the highest-ranked program in the 10-team field. Santa Clara (72nd), UC Davis (73rd) and Sacramento State (75th) are closely bunched with Cal Poly (81st) not far behind.
The Hornets started their spring by placing fourth at the San Diego State Classic. Ella Kraft tied for sixth and finished the tournament at 1-under par (70-73-72-215).

The Last Time at Causeway Invitational
Led by a second-place finish from Caitlin Maurice and a third-place showing from Sneha Sharan, Sacramento State finished in second in the team standings at last year’s Causeway Invitational. The Hornets totaled 285-277-293-855 and were one shot behind Oregon State for the team title. Ashley Koga had the best finish among the returners, shooting 70-72-75-217 to tie for 10th.
