The Reverse Overlap Putting Grip. In this video golf tip, Australian PGA Golf Professional Brian Fitzgerald “The Golf Doctor” celebrates his 100th golf tip video with The Reverse Overlap Putting Grip.

Hello. I’m Brian Fitzgerald The Golf Doctor.

Today is my 100th golf video.

So it’s amazing how quickly that time has gone.

And 100 videos ago I started with a golf grip video.

And for golf tip number 100 I’m going to continue with another golf grip video.

So we are going to have a look at the Reverse Overlap Putting Grip.

Stay tuned.

So putter grips.

There are a lot of different putter grips out there.

The one that I like to teach is called the Reverse Overlap Putting Grip.

What is the Reverse Overlap Putting grip?

It’s actually one where I take my normal golf grip and then I take my normal pointer finger and I put it on the outside of the grip.

So with my hands in that position. It actually makes it easier for me to use a wrist free stroke.

If I start using my wrists it gives me less control over what the ball is doing.

And I want to have control over my putting.

So if you use that grip you can still be wrist free but it’s just harder.

I much prefer the reverse overlap as it does lock the wrists together and it enables me to control the distance that I hit the ball through length of swing and speed of swing.

So if you have a go at trying that reverse overlap grip I am sure it is going to help you to hole more putts.

We will see how it goes.

Another 3 footer.

Just incidently.

Do you know what the US Tour average is on 3 foot putts?

In 2014 it was actually 84%.

So what does that tell you?

That the best players in the world miss from 3 foot. 1 putter length from the hole 16% of the time.

So don’t kick yourself if you miss 3 footers.

Just don’t do it too often. So the more you practise these the more you are going to get.

Thank you for letting me help you with your golf.

It’s hard to believe that 100 videos have gone by.

While there are many putting grips you can use the reverse overlap grip is my preferred grip. This grip helps to keep your wrists locked during the swing giving you better distance control and accuracy.
