I find this quite interesting that from one tour pro and greats of the game to the next they set up to the ball completely differently which is why its often funny to hear people swearing by one way being the right way and the other not
.
Jack Nicklaus was known for his style of set up along with a number of other players from his era where they would set up to every shot from just on the inside of the front foot
.
Move it along to todays game and most teaching professionals will teach to play the ball further back in the stance as the loft of the club gets higher
.
Switch it up to Bryson and he (from what I have seen) is the opposite end of Nicklaus and plays his irons a bit further back in his stance, presumably to de-loft it giving him extra distance and helping to control the spin better. Its also apparently to help with his one plane swing and all of his irons being the same length
.
As usual I wouldn’t say that there is one way to play the ball in your stance but trying to keep it consistent is key and its just fascinating to see how players of different eras had different ways of going about it and with more modern players like Bryson still trying to find a newer and better way still

Didn't nicklaus have a pretty strong grip or is this meant to be driver?
