PALM DESERT, Calif. – Tillie Claggett fired a final-round 70 to finish 14th individually at the Alice and John Wallace Women’s Golf Classic. The Commodores carded an 11-over team total on Monday to finish the weekend in fifth place at 24-over par.

“The struggle was real today, but we never gave up,” said head coach Greg Allen. “After getting off to a good start, it’s almost like we forgot how to play golf for a few holes. But I’m proud of how we continued to fight through the struggle.”

Lynn Lim and Ava Merrill both tied for 21st individually at 8-over par. Lim tallied a final-round 74 and Merrill a 76. Elizabeth Rudisill finished 18th with a 77 on Monday. Angelina Tolentino went for a 4-over par 75. Kathryn Ha, competing as an individual, shot a 75 in the final round.

Vanderbilt finished two strokes behind fourth-place California. USC won the event at 17-under par.

“If we have the right mindset moving forward, this will help us down the road,” said Allen.

Vanderbilt will return to the course next month at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club on March 2-4.
