It’s Week 3 of the PGA Tour’s 2026 season. It’s also “Welcome Back Brooks Koepka Week,” as the five-time major winner has returned after nearly four years with LIV Golf. The Farmers Insurance Open is the Tour’s annual stop in La Jolla, California.

Koepka shot a pedestrian round of 1-over 73 at the South Course on Thursday while Justin Rose tore up the North Course to the tune of a 10-under 62. Rose leads by one over Justin Lower, who sits in solo second at 9 under.

Justin Rose made 10 birdies and eight pars en route to a blistering 10-under 62 on the North Course at Torrey Pines. He holds the solo lead after the opening round of the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open, one shot ahead of Justin Lower, who sits in solo second at 9 under.

“Obviously delighted to kind of go out there and make the most of a perfect day,” Rose said. “I mean, it was just such an enjoyable round of golf. You know, great views. It’s one of my favorite venues on Tour. It’s been a spotty venue for me through the years, I feel like I’ve either played great or not here, so nice to get off to a good start. North Course clearly is one that you want to try to make the most of and it’s great to do that today for sure.”

Rose, who won at Torrey Pines in 2019, made five birdies on each side to card dueling 31s Thursday.

“It feels like a similar weather week to when I won and I feel like it was the kind of week that you had to keep going low and keep playing well. I think I got it to 21 under par at some point during the tournament, so you know this tournament can also be a tournament where you feel like 9, 10, 11 under par’s a really good week.”

Rose could have gone even lower on Thursday. He missed a 3-footer for birdie at the par-5 ninth, his last hole of the day.

“I think it’s funny how you can walk off frustrated for sure. It was just a little tricky putt and I second guessed it a little bit… But no, listen, I made my share out there today. My process was fantastic,” Rose said. “I feel like I managed my game really, really well today. I didn’t feel like I played perfect golf so it’s a good reminder that you don’t always have to play perfect golf but it was good enough.”

While the 62 was more than stellar Thursday, Rose knows it only gets tougher from here. The South Course at Torrey Pines has always been the more difficult of the two and that appears to be the case again this week.

“I think often depends on the weather, right? If you have a really windy day on a Thursday or a Friday, that can really make one of the courses play a bit different to the other. I think we’ve got pretty similar weather for the first two days, so obviously it’s about going out and trying to put two rounds together and see where you sort of fall going into the weekend.

“But I hope the weekend gets harder, I hope it gets firm, I hope it gets tough, you know, because this golf course kind of suits that. You’ve got to be very strategic and, you know, hopefully if you’re playing good golf, that will suit me.”

Justin Rose continues to make light work of the North Course. He’s 10 under through 17 holes and has taken the solo lead as of 6:25 p.m. ET.

Brooks Koepka looked the part of a professional golfer who hasn’t played in nearly four months Thursday. There was a little bit of good, more bad and a whole lot of inconsistency in his highly-anticipated PGA Tour return at Torrey Pines.

Koepka signed for a 1-over 73 on the South Course in his first Tour start since 2022, and before his closing birdie on the par-5 18th he was looking at only the sixth time in his PGA Tour career to complete a round without making a birdie.

Even with a slow start in his return, Koepka still out-dueled his playing partners, with Max Homa (3 over) and Ludvig Aberg (6 over) both struggling.

Justin Rose made his eighth birdie of the day at the par-5 sixth hole on the North Course just after 5:30 p.m. ET to get to 8 under, just one behind solo leader Justin Lower, who’s in the clubhouse with a 63.

Rose missed the cut at the American Express a week ago but is bogey-free thus far at Torrey Pines as he seeks his 13th victory on the PGA Tour. The Englishman won the FedEx St. Jude in a playoff at the end of the 2025 season before being contributing to Team Europe’s winning effort at the Ryder Cup. At 45 years old, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Max Greyserman made nine birdies at Torrey Pines North on Thursday en route to an 8-under 64 to open play at the Farmers Insurance Open. His only bogey of the day came at the 18th, which followed up three straight birdies on Nos. 15-17.

“Kind of did most things well,” Greyserman said. “If you’re going to shoot in the low to mid 60s around here, you’ve got to do a lot of things well. Putter speed was good, iron play, wedge play was solid, a little leaky off the tee at times with the driver but nothing too bad. You’ve really got to take advantage of that North Course in this tournament.”

Greyserman got oh-so-close to his first PGA Tour victory last summer at the Rocket Classic in Detroit but lost in a playoff to Aldrich Potgieter. He went through a rough patch of four straight missed cuts shortly thereafter, but finished the year on a positive note with a solo second at the Baycurrent Classic.

Still in search of that first win, he’s in a great spot after day one at the Farmers Insurance Open.

“That’s just golf, that’s ebbs and flows of golf, any sport really,” Greyserman said. “Unless I guess you’re Scottie Scheffler, you have up and down weeks.

“I’m pretty pleased with some of the equipment changes I’ve made this year relative to last year. I think getting some momentum off the tee, which is what I struggled with last year, I think that will be key for me for the rest of the year. I’ve got to be patient. It’s a long year. I didn’t have a great week at AmEx last week, but that doesn’t determine the year. And I’m going to be playing 25 plus times, there’s plenty of opportunities to play well and hopefully get a win.”

Brooks Koepka’s first birdie of the day came on his last hole of the day, the par-5 18th at Torrey Pines South. He finishes with a 1-over 73 in his first PGA Tour round since 2022.

Justin Lower was one of the first players to finish his opening round and came in low, firing a 9-under 63 on the North Course capped off by an eagle on his final hole (he started on the back nine). That was just one of two eagles he made on the day, with another coming at the 17th. Lower made six birdies and even a bogey but still managed a blistering round.

“I finally made some putts, which was nice,” Lower said after his round. “I really struggled with my putting the last calendar year or so and I worked really hard on it. Yeah, it was nice to see some progress with that today. Yeah, it was just kind of just a good day overall. I mean, the weather’s perfect, I tried to take advantage of that especially being on the North Course the first day”

The 36-year-old from Akron, Ohio, is a bit of a journeyman, with no wins and just 13 top 10 finishes in 126 starts on Tour. He lost his fully exempt status on the PGA Tour last season and was emotional in his final interview at the RSM Classic when the thought of losing his card became a reality.

But he’s in prime position after one round at the Farmer’s Insurance Open and could still be the solo leader by day’s end.

“I’m happy to be out here. I knew I was going to still get some starts, which was nice. It’s my fifth year, I’ve gotten more out here than I probably should have, so I’m happy to be out here.”

A: “I don’t know, really 🤣”

Lower is also dealing with some exciting but perhaps distracting developments at home.

“If I’m being really truthful with everyone, my mind’s not really here,” Lower said. “My wife is 34 weeks pregnant with twins and I’m just trying to get home on Monday honestly to try to help everything out as much as I can. Luckily we have family close and everything. Yeah, she’s going through it right now. Life’s about to get real if it wasn’t real already.”

Maybe his mind being elsewhere is a good thing, because he tore up the North Course on Thursday. He’ll turn his attention to the much tougher South Course on Friday, and a good score there could land him in a great spot entering the weekend.

Sometimes you just need to catch a break…

Davis Thompson fired a 6-under 30 on the front nine of the North Course to get off to a blistering start at the Farmers Insurance Open. He has six birdies on his card thus far, including three in a row on holes 5-7. As of 4:30 p.m. ET, he’s three shots off Max Greyserman’s lead.

Brooks Koepka caught a bad break with his ball finding a divot and it led to his second bogey of the day, which came on the par-5 13th on the South Course. He’s 2 over with five holes to play.

Who said volunteers can’t throw darts, too?

The five-time major champion is putting together an awfully pedestrian round thus far. He’s 1 over through 12 as of 3:45 p.m. ET and on a streak of eight straight pars. Still, he’s limiting the damage and biding his time until he plays the North Course tomorrow. Ten of the top 11 players on the leaderboard are on the North Course.

Brooks Koepka shot 1-over 37 on the front nine at Torrey Pines South to get underway at the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open. He made one bogey and eight pars, with a few missed opportunities at birdie looks and a few really solid par saves.

The South Course is undoubtedly playing harder than the North Course, so Koepka might just be in “survive and advance” mode for the rest of the day. He’ll play the North Course on Friday, which is already yielding a lot of birdies. He then scrambed for another par on the 10th before making yet another par on the 11th:

It’s already evident that the South Course is playing much harder than the North Course, which is typical, but someone forgot to tell that to Max McGreevy, made four birdies in a row to close out a 5-under 31 on the front nine.

Quite the start to the Farmers Insurance Open for Max Greyserman, who made five birdies and four pars en route to a 5-under 31 on the front nine at the North Course. He’s in the solo lead as of 2:25 p.m. ET.

Jason Day hit a beautiful chip shot at the par-5 10th hole on the North Course, which was his first hole of the day, and tapped in for birdie. He then made another birdie on No. 11 to get off to a hot start early Thursday at the Farmers.

Brooks Koepka is 1 over through six holes after two more pars on Nos. 5 and 6 at the South Course as of 2 p.m. ET. His driver has been a bit erratic but he’s been able to scramble his way to a respectable start thus far.

Max Greyserman has taken the solo lead early Thursday with a really stellar start to his round. Three birdies and three pars on the first six holes at the North Course has Greyserman atop the leaderboard as of 1:50 p.m. ET.

Brooks Koepka made his first bogey at the par-4 fourth. His drive found a fairway bunker and he three-putted from about 55 feet for bogey. He’s 1 over through four as of 1:30 p.m. ET.

While much of the U.S. continues to suffer through brutal winter weather, the players at the Farmers Insurance Open are enjoying absolutely perfect golf conditions Thursday in southern California. It’s 65 degrees and sunny with a very light wind around 5 mph. According to the forecast, it’ll stay like that all weekend at Torrey Pines.

Brooks Koepka is even through three holes on the Torrey Pines South Course.

Ludvig Aberg made the first ace of his PGA Tour career on the third hole at Torrey Pines South last season. This year, he dang near did it again. Check out this beauty from Aberg, who’s 1 over through three holes to begin his opening round at the Farmers.

Koepka is off to a solid start at Torrey Pines South — widely considered the more difficult of the two courses this week — with two pars at Nos. 1 and 2. He’s 2-for-2 in greens in regulation and hit a nice lag putt on the second green to tap in for four.

While many of the eyes are on Brooks Koepka today, one of the world’s best players is making his 2026 season debut in his hometown. Xander Schauffele, ranked No. 3 in the OWGR, teed off on the first hole of Torrey Pines South just before 1 p.m. ET.

The La Jolla native was winless in 2025 up until the very last event he played, the Baycurrent Classic in Japan, which he won by one shot to cap off his season back in October. A two-time major champion seemingly entering his prime, Schauffele is poised for another solid season as he gets underway in 2026.

Brooks Koepka had a really good look at birdie from about 12 feet on the first hole at Torrey Pines South but narrowly missed it. He taps in for par and he’s off and running on the PGA Tour once again.

Brooks Koepka let it fly just after 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday for his opening round of the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open, playing alongside Ludvig Aberg and Max Homa. Koepka’s ball found the fairway on No. 1 at the South Course. The 35-year-old five-time major champion is officially playing his first round on the PGA Tour since 2022.
