Tom Hoge Warns PGA Tour Fans About Shorter Schedule | Tiger Woods-Led FCC Plans Big Changes

The PGA Tour could be shrinking its schedule by 2027, and Tom Hoge isn’t convinced it’s the right move. ⛳⚡

At the 2025 Hero World Challenge, Tiger Woods revealed that the Future Competition Committee (FCC), created by PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, is exploring a shorter, star-focused PGA Tour schedule. The plan aims to reduce events from around 38 to 25-27, starting in February to avoid competition with the NFL, while requiring top golfers to play every tournament.

While the changes could create a sleeker, more fan-friendly product, Tom Hoge raised concerns about the potential downsides:
• Loss of flexibility – golfers would have no choice in scheduling.
• Fewer opportunities for emerging players – new talent may struggle to get noticed.
• Fan experience – shrinking the schedule could alienate golf’s loyal fan base.

Hoge explained, “Golf fans love the meritocracy of the game. If you shrink the schedule, someone else could step in and take their place.”

He also reflected on the financial side of recent PGA Tour changes, noting that LIV Golf’s arrival in 2022 increased prize money and opportunities for players like him. 💰

The debate highlights a key tension in professional golf: how to balance big stars and financial growth with opportunities for rising players.
