With Christmas on the horizon, it was a short week of golf action at the Key Royale Club in Holmes Beach.
The men played their weekly modified-Stableford system match Dec. 22. Quentin Talbert and Steve Vasbinder shared first on matching plus-4s.
Brian Comer was the winner of the skins game with 2.
The women played their usual nine-hole individual-low-net match Dec. 23. Susan VanOrsdel grabbed clubhouse bragging rights with a 2-under-par 30 to edge second-place finisher Jana Samuels by one stroke. Margrit Layh was alone in third-place with a 1-over-par 33.
To top off his month, Bill MacMillan hit his second career hole-in-one Dec. 19 at the KRC course. MacMillan aced the 132-yard third hole with his 5-wood. Following the round, MacMillan treated members to the traditional beverage at the clubhouse.
Horseshoe action Dec. 24 at the Anna Maria City Hall pits saw Tim Sofran and Bob Lee post the lone 3-0 record to be Christmas Eve’s undisputed champs.
Action Dec. 27 saw two teams advance to a playoff. The team of Bob Mason and Adin Shank defeated Sofran and Lee 22-11 to earn bragging rights.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Anna Maria City Hall. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by random team selection.
