Snow in bunker. I could not drop in bunker without being closer to hole. I didn't want to take a penalty stroke. I played as is, and used a 'sand shot' in soft snow to get out. (Missed putt).
Could I have got free drop out of bunker due to adverse conditions or just casual water rule?

Were you playing in a tournament? If the answer is no, just play golf man
Your club might have a local winter rule regarding snow in the bunkers and allow you a free drop outside, but if not, it’s a one stroke penalty if you drop it outside the bunker due to abnormal conditions/temporary water relief.
You played it correctly and got out in one. Well done!
