The Park Board of Tacoma approved a three-year design contact for a slew of new upgrades to Meadow Park Golf Course. Improvements will include a new executive nine-hole course, a three-hole developmental course, a restaurant, clubhouse and new golf entertainment facility at the site, 7108 Lakewood Dr.
The “Reimagine Meadow Park Golf Course” project is expected to cost about $48 million, which would be invested between 2025 and 2029, according to an FAQ on Parks Tacoma’s website. The project would be completed as proposed by the end of 2027.
No general fund money is expected to be spent on the upgrades. Funding will come from the Meadow Park Golf Enterprise Cash Reserves, donations and double-barrel limited tax general obligation municipal bonds “which will be paid by the enterprise operational revenue,” according to Parks Tacoma.
The 143-acre golf course has an 18-hole Championship Course, a Williams Nine Executive Course, pro shop, restaurant and driving range. The course first opened as a nine-hole private golf course in 1915 before it came under governance of Tacoma’s parks district in 1961, according to its website. In 2025 there were 110,000 rounds of golf played and 12 million balls hit, said Parks Tacoma.
“The project addresses aging infrastructure and the need to increase facility access to keep up with current and growing demand for golf,” according to Parks Tacoma’s website.
In discussions about the upgrades, Parks Tacoma has said its goals are to “maintain an affordable, playable and community-oriented golf course,” “stay aligned with the agency’s strategic direction to serve all our community but pay special attention and focus on youth” and “ensure fiscal sustainability for the long term by attracting new users and retaining existing customers.”
A map of upgrades from Parks Tacoma includes new tees and greens, remodeled bunkers as well as some tree removal. Parks Tacoma will minimize operational impacts to customers during construction, according to its website.
This year, Meadow Park Golf Course is expected to gross $5 million in golf revenue, in addition to $2 million in revenue from food, beverages and other services, Parks Tacoma said on its website. The course’s operating budget is $5 million, including $1.5 million for capital investment and $3.5 million in operations.
