The Quarry in San Antonio | The MUST play golf course
Recently, I’ve been searching for a nice
and different course to play in Texas. We usually play at Kizer on the south side,
Star Ranch on the north, or Kissing Tree further south. From the research, I found many youtube videos
of the Quarry in San Antonio and it looked amazing, so I asked the guys about it . Turned
out they actually played there before but years ago. So we decided to take a weekend to reunite
at the quarry for a golf outing. As we got to Lincoln Heights, I was really
excited to see this part of the town looked pretty cool and young compared to other areas
that I’ve been to in San Antonio. It’s a shopping center with busy traffic
and a lot of people walking around. The golf course surprisingly sits right in
the middle of this vibrant community. The entrance of the course looked bright and
welcoming that day. The pro shop also reflected this environment,
looking new, modern and clean inside. Then we got on the first hole. I started pretty well with the driver and
everything just went down hills after that. You know, it’s still the mystery I try to
figure out every time I play golf. That consistency is so hard to achieve when
playing. I was so confident hitting the balls when
practicing and warming up. But I guess the reality is different when
playing. You’ve gotta have the focus, controlling
the pressure, different elevations, ups and downs, the emotions. It was in February when we played. It started around 30 degree F early in the
morning, and went up to around 60 something degree Farenheit later on. The Texas winter time is like a mood swing
and sometimes, it would be tricky for me to pick an outfit that could be perfect for both
freezing and warm weather when playing during this time. Overall, the front 9 was decent but the course
was very well maintained. We enjoyed the pace of play on that day. The course was forgiving. Wide fairways, not too tricky with sand traps,
just needed to watch out for the waters and dormant grass on the sides. Finished the front 9, the guys were good and
competitive. Their score was pretty close, Nathan and Steve
were leading with 40, followed was dad with 41 And then we got onto the back 9 which you
would be able to see the entire view of its landscape either from the entrance or from
the clubhouse balcony. Back 9 had this dramatic view of nature with
large rocks, hills, and the valley among the holes. I just have never seen this type of landscape
anywhere on the courses we’ve played in Texas before. So I was just surprised how beautiful this
place was and appreciated that we could come out here to experience this. From the hole 12, I could feel we were immersed
in this loop of landscape. We might see thing repeatedly around us but
to me, every hole that we played gave me a different angle of the surroundings which
were quite awesome. After finishing the game, we ordered some
drinks at the clubhouse before heading to Piranha Izakaya which was a sushi restaurant
around the area. This place seemed to be popular and packed
by the time we got there. So maybe it’s smart to call in a reserve
a table before you get here. It would take us about 45minutes for the wait
time, luckily, we found some seats at the bar and sat down immediately. The food was great, and it was such a good
meal after a long day on the road.
We had another great weekend playing golf at The Quarry course in San Antonio, Texas. The Quarry Golf Course in San Antonio was designed by nationally recognized golf course designer Keith Foster. This course has the most dramatic landscape and beautiful golf course layout that I’ve ever seen in Texas. This would be one of the MUST play golf courses if you’ve ever visited San Antonio.

I remember that drive so well (Austin to San Marcos then New Braunfels to San Anton) but it seemed to take forever. Tough day on the course! Bunkers are so problematic and most don't ever practice out of them nor do courses have a practice bunker(s).
absolutely love your video and the editing. I am finally playing The Quarry next week after moving to Houston for almost 2 years lol.
