Here's my setup…

1/2" foam pads on the bottom, topped with a Home Depot anti fatigue mat, topped with Home Depot turf. Links to the mat and turf below.

The hitting surface "looks" great. Very natural looking. But I always feel like I'm hitting out of the rough. I'm hitting way more heavy shots than I normally do on the course. Does this turf look like it's too shaggy to be using for a hitting mat?

I'm thinking that I should have just bought one of the commercially produced mats instead of trying to DIY one.

I am in the process of getting mine setup. My plan is to use 1” EVA foam around the edges to give it support then 1” soft upholstery foam in the middle.

The foam will get glued/taped to a Lexan polycarbonate sheet then I will glue/tape the turf on top of it.

Based on your description, your layers are 1/2” foam, antifatigue mat, turf?

If that’s the case, then maybe you need a softer layer where the antifatigue mat is. You need some give or else it will feel too grabby
