This was my first real dive into arm wrestling, and Devon gave me some game-changing tips.

Lift Heavy, Be Kind!

#lhbk #strongman #worldsstrongestman

ro. Hey, who’s next? Who’s the strongest around here? Where is the guy? Are you [Music] I went out to Ottawa High Hooker Day invited by Deon Lorat and it is way overdue. He is a legend in arm wrestling and I’m the first Canadian to win World’s Strongest Man. It was a natural collab for us to get together and I had an absolute blast. Devon taught me some arm wrestling. I got embraced in arm wrestling culture, the good, the bad, and the strange. And we had some great chats in and around performance recovery. I had some great takeaways. I also got on the table with Devon and maybe gave him a run for his money. Not really. But enjoy the video, guys. Subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. And uh let’s get into it. Welcome to the auto eye. Welcome to the most ancient of the fight sports. Is that is that true? I think we started arm wrestling right around the time we started shaking hands. Yeah. Yeah. Super basic. Uh arm wrestling table. Pretty standard strap. We can roll around a bit. Hey. Yeah. Let’s Let’s experiment a bit. Yeah. Let’s first just like 10,000 foot overview. Rules to start would be great. What one rules and two what is it to be an [ __ ] on the table and the things that you don’t do that hurt people that are against the rules that are just against the etiquette? Yeah. Supposed to do it. Well, all that that’s just all common sense. Like anything that actually hurts somebody, like I would generally avoid that. Like no striking, no spitting, no, you know, no crazy [ __ ] Uh I mean I say all sorts of hurtful words, okay? Do whatever the [ __ ] you want. You lose. You lose. This is the first time I’ve ever been strapped into arm wrestle and doing it head-to-head with one of the most iconic arm wrestlers of all time felt almost surreal. Now, there’s a bit that I had to get over with holding a man’s hand for such an extended period of time, but Deon was being pretty nice. Now, the first thing he taught me was really interesting, that you’re not actually trying to always press to the side, but that you’re trying to manipulate your hand position the best that you can. Deon showed me a couple of different ways to be able to get the arm down, but ultimately, he continued to focus on adjusting your hand, so you go higher and higher up the thumb. You can see I continue opening and closing my hand, following his advice to get up on his fingers. Now, I always said I would never arm wrestle unless it was against someone who was really good because I’ve always been nervous that I’d break my arm. But Devon was being really nice. I did notice one thing, though. Whenever he wanted to turn his wrist or wanted to stop me or wanted to show me something, it was like a concrete wall. It was near impossible to do something that he didn’t want me to do. But lesson number one, get the hand high and pull your hand towards yourself like a hammer curl. Started going pretty well. Now, I got lots of good feedback on this from him and from the other arm wrestlers that I was picking it up much faster than the ordinary person, but I’m pretty sure they’re just trying to inflate my ego cuz everything felt pretty strange. We continued arm wrestling a little bit, but I was interrupted with a call. And no matter who I’m with or what the situation is, if it’s time to say good night to my daughter, I have to say good night. And she’ll never know what happens, but it’s a pretty cool way to say goodbye. Now, today’s video is brought to you by Ketone IQ. Ketone IQ helps not only with your strength gains, but also with mental clarity. Now, how does it help with strength? Because it’s ketones, and ketones are associated with aerobic fitness. Well, our brain can only operate off of ketones or pure glucose. If we use ketones, it retains glucose in our bloodstream that goes into our muscles as glycogen that’s able to be used as fuel. Of course, the more fuel we retain, the more energy we have available to lift weights. Now, in terms of mental clarity, if we have energy available and it can be used in the form of ketones or glucose, regardless, we are going to be in a good mental state. When you’re training, you suck glucose out of the bloodstream. That is simple physiology. You’re not going to soak ketones out of the bloodstream at near the same rate. That way, ketones stay in your bloodstream. They stay in your brain. You can stay mentally focused through your entire workout, but also you can get to work after your workout. So, if I was advising Devin, he would be taking some ketones that after his training, he could still stay switched on and continue to party. But maybe he has his other methods. But you use ketone IQ. It tastes horrible if it’s in the original form and you want to be hardcore. I am not hardcore. I’m using the green apple. Flavors of huge varieties are now out and in many stores across North America and there are caffeinated versions and non-caffeinated versions. Always sugar-free. Check it out. We put the link down in the description. Ketone IQ. Get yours today. Thank you very much for being the video sponsor for today. And let’s get back to some arm wrestling. Like I said, this was part of the Ottawa High Hookers. And this was much more than just Devon Lorat. There was lots of arm wrestlers around. Tons of excitement. There was even a pig roast. As you can see, people were right into the event. I tried to get into the hype as well. It was very contagious. And a quick moment of me and the pig was caught on camera. She was lovely. I then stumbled upon some bongo drums. So much randomness going on at that party, but everyone just having generally a good time. I hopped back on the table with Devon and he started showing me more things to do with my hands. Now, one thing is turning your hand to face towards you, almost like you’re bicep curling the other guy’s hand or you’re supernating your own wrist. Now, if you did this and you pulled that close to you, that combination felt incredibly strong. Now, it did not feel incredibly strong against Devon, but theoretically it felt incredibly strong. He also taught me that you move your elbow around the pad to gain extra leverage. And by sliding the elbow back and forth, combining that with pulling up on the hand, combining that with keeping your hand close to you made me understand some of the logistics of arm wrestling and that it’s more than just who can push each other to the side. Now, I’ll let you listen into a little bit of advice that Deon was giving me. The hand can do a lot of different things, but this outside le is great, right? This outside slide, this lift your Oh, wow. I’m not going into other way. Okay. Good. Good. Good. Yes. Here. Yes. Wonderful. And listen. Can you believe? Yes. Feel a step. And then you can step over it. Yes. You’re getting it. Now you’re getting it. Now you’re getting it. Now you’re getting it. Yeah. Now you At the event, there were upwards of a hundred arm wrestlers. Now, a lot of them local to Ottawa, but some flew in from as far as California to take part in the event, and the camaraderie was awesome. Now, I had to combine our world. So, I brought a little implement along that’s halfway between strongman and arm wrestling. And this is the Thomas inch dumbbell. I wanted to see if anyone here could lift it and all I had to do was put it on the ground and a a crowd started to form nearly immediately. Everyone wanted to give this a try and even some of the strongest hands in the world had a hard time picking this up. Let me know if you think I should take this out in public and test some people. Maybe someone in my hometown could lift this Dumbo. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [ __ ] [Music] I feel strong. The day culminated with Devin going absolutely insane. This was his last hard training session before his matches at the Shaw Classic. And what he did to train was he got every single person at the event to arm wrestling him. He went on and on and on. People tried every body position, obviously unsuccessfully, but he won, I would estimate, a 100 matches in a row, and that was set number one. And he would play with the other people. He would let them take whatever position on his hand they wanted. He would let them get him close to being tapped out, and he would just simply pull back. Now, some people after 10, 20, 30 matches got him somewhat close to putting in a high effort and he was going absolutely crazy, maybe a little too crazy, but this level of intensity was so good to see, so inspiring. And this is the stuff that I love when I get together with another high-erforming athlete. Not necessarily that I love arm wrestling or I love jiu-jitsu or I love mixed martial arts, but once you get around someone who’s passionate about something, it’s near impossible not to pick up on their energy. And the day wrapped up, I met this dude. I swapped my cheek. And I’ll let you guess why. We’ll circle back to that sometime in the future, but I believe this is going to change strength sports. I’ll let you speculate on what that might be. Thank you very much for watching. As pros, lift heavy, be kind. Subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already, and we’ll catch you tomorrow. 1. Your passion for self promotion and social media presence is stronger than your passion to be strongest in the world.

  2. Mitch is one of the most physically talented and intelligent strength athletes on the planet- super super exciting potential 🌎💫🪽

  3. It’s a common misconception that arm wrestling and arm wrestlers are all technique. These guys, especially Devon, have some of the strongest arms/hands/wrists in the world. Guys like Mitchell could have perfect technique but still wouldn’t even budge most pros.

  4. Can you grow tall and wider please? You don't look like you should be worlds strongest man. Shaw, Mountain and Eddie all physically looked like they deserve that title.

  5. I was present during this lesson between Mitch and Devon. I can attest Mitch was picking up concepts and movements extremely quickly. It’s always overwhelming for new pullers, but he seems like a natural

  6. Dude I’ve waited so long for this collaboration! Big fans of you both, us Canadians don’t have a lot of athletes to root for! I hope to see you armwrestle more, you’d be an absolute beast.

  7. What a treat, two Canadians who conquered their respective sports. Proud they embody the characteristics that makes them great Canadians – intelligent, articulate, respectful…until the competition bell brings out Hyde in both.

  8. At the end of the video you'll see an arm wrestler put even more leverage on the kings move than devon. I can't stand that move and when you see 2 guys do it to the extreme you realize how clownish it really is.Having said that, Devon has put in the work to keep arm wrestling alive and deserves props

  9. First Canadian ? What about Hugo Girard? Don't get me wrong i'm a huge fan of Mr Hooper did/doing Canada proud. Even bigger Devon fan !!

  10. Cool video with two famous Canadians! Totally unrelated but what vehicle were you sitting in while talking about your sponsor?

  11. Ever seen the leg press knee buckle on YouTube?

I had similar vibes watching the long haired dudes wrist with that under the table leverage… that looked like snap city

  12. Killing, displaying, eating – and then mocking as well!? The pig “joke” is more than unnecessary…

  13. He’s said goodnight to his daughter. He didn’t think he should say good night to his wife?

    Oh yea….
