Two-time major champion Bryson DeChambeau’s participation in LIV Golf and social media activities don’t contribute to his Official World Golf Rankings position, yet he maintains his 25th-place global standing despite competing in merely nine official ranking tournaments over the past two years.

The YouTube and TikTok sensation has captured two U.S. Opens and previously held the fourth-best ranking globally, but made the switch to LIV Golf in June 2022, with the Saudi-backed organization continuing its battle for OWGR recognition.

DeChambeau has participated in only five ranking tournaments in 2025, including the International Series India where he secured a runner-up finish, the Masters, where he tied for fifth, and the PGA Championship, where he tied for second.

DeChambeau had maintained consistent top-10 status before his LIV move, but has dropped in the rankings due to his limited schedule and shortage of official ranking competitions.

Earlier this year, DeChambeau emphasized that LIV’s application for official points would be crucial, acknowledging the process is taking more time than anticipated, reports the Mirror US.

“We’re okay with that,” DeChambeau said. “We’re commercializing. We’ve got some good partners aboard with us now.”

Since new CEO Scott O’Neill’s appointment, he has focused on LIV’s expansion and has worked to establish the league as ‘mainstream’ as possible. “LIV Golf is committed to working together with the Official World Golf Ranking and its board to ensure the very best players are competing in the game’s most prestigious events,” O’Neill said in a statement.

“We are confident our application addresses the outstanding questions that exist to support a more global, all-encompassing, and accurate ranking system. We are hopeful the review and approval process can progress ahead of the 2026 major season.”

LIV’s initial application was rejected in 2023, and they have just recently submitted a second time.

“I don’t know, do you guys think we should get points? I would say that we’ve got some pretty good players over there [in LIV],” DeChambeau said.

“Going through the right process is important, and I think Scott and all of us are looking forward to going through that process and getting it done the right way. We’re excited for that.”

Regardless of whether the application is approved, DeChambeau is the only player in the world who has competed in under 10 events and is in the top-160.

By comparison, Tommy Fleetwood, Rory McIlroy and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler have all competed in over 40 events.

“I think it’s big for us to have these players that are just jumping onboard still collect points. They are deserving of it. They’re playing some incredible golf every week, and I think having a system in place for us as players would benefit the ecosystem of the game tremendously, especially for fans.”
