To make up for the shortened year, all campuses will extend the school day by five minutes

Frisco ISD officially finalized the 2026-27 academic calendar, ending the school year slightly early so students won’t have to compete with PGA Championship crowds for a spot in the carpool line.

The calendar, shaped by a committee of staff, parents, community members and students, reflects months of feedback and logistical planning, especially as Frisco prepares to host one of the largest sporting events ever to hit the city.

How The Calendar Came Together

According to Frisco ISD, the 2026-27 Calendar Committee included 10 staff members, eight parents and community representatives and eight students from the District Advisory Council. Their draft was presented at the November Board meeting after reviewing input from more than 8,400 parents and nearly 3,200 district employees through a fall survey.

The committee balanced several priorities while building the schedule: state instructional-minute requirements, alignment of major breaks with nearby districts, preferred start dates for teachers and the timing of graduation ceremonies.

PGA Championship Drives Early End To School Year

One major factor set this calendar apart. Frisco will host the PGA Championship in May 2027, an event expected to draw roughly 30,000 visitors per day. With the surge in traffic and public safety demand, district and city officials determined that ending the school year a week earlier than usual was the safest solution.

As a result, the last day of school will land on Friday, May 14, 2027.
