Victor Havland has drawn criticism from American golf supporters after team Europe’s victory celebrations at the RDER Cup. The Norwegian golfer gestured towards his injured neck while celebrating which infuriated many fans who questioned the severity of his condition. Havland had been forced to withdraw before Sunday’s singles matches due to an old neck injury that resurfaced during the tournament. He had participated in the Friday morning forsomes where he and Robert McIntyre suffered a defeat against Patrick Kentlay and Xander Schaell. However, the European pair redeemed themselves on Saturday morning by defeating Russell Henley and Scotty Sheffller. They were later scheduled to face Kantlay and Sam Burns in the afternoon fourball session, but Trell Hatton had to step in at the last moment when Havlin’s injury worsened. The issue ultimately sidelined Havlin for the Sunday singles. His absence resulted in the cancellation of the 12th and final match which had been set against Harris English. Anticipating possible injuries during the week, United States captain Keegan Bradley had made the decision in advance that English could also be withdrawn if necessary. Team Europe ultimately secured victory by the narrowest of margins with Havlin’s half point proving decisive after the Americans launched a late comeback during the post-match celebrations. Havlin pointed towards his neck before lifting the Rder Cup trophy on the course. That gesture immediately provoked anger among American spectators who accused him of exaggerating his injury. 0.1 fan wrote on social media, “I am sorry, but this entire Victor Havlin neck injury situation is a stain on the RDER Cup. His neck looks fine in the group photo and then he appears to put on an act during the celebrations with team Europe and their fans. He received half a point for sitting out. That is some participation trophy nonsense. I have always liked Havland and do not doubt that he is hurt, but awarding points for sitting out and then pretending to wear an invisible neck brace while celebrating is ridiculous. At least make an effort to play the way tennis players often

  1. IM A 9 HANDI CAP WITH A BAD NECK SOMETIMES I UNDERSTAND YOU CANNOT BE YOUR BEST OR EVEN PLAY WELL WHEN THE NECK DECIDES TO F-UP. dont pay them no mind.

  2. The envelope rule was initiated as symbolic about what the Ryder Cup is, in the spirit of the Nicklaus-Jacklin concession. It no longer applies. The contest has become a take no prisoners blood match. They should suspend it indefinitely.

  3. As far as the Hovland thing goes, most of us remember Tiger playing at the U.S. Open, in pain so bad it brought him to his knees.

  4. Do you not understand the meaning when you say “decisive” in your commentary? It wasn’t decisive – we would have still won 14.5-13.5 without the half point from that match. Think about what you say before making incorrect statements.
