Hip Turn Drill | GolfPass

hi golf pass i’m debbie donegar often times my students on the range complain about popping up off their trail side earlier than they would like and a lot of it has to do with you didn’t make the best hip turn that you could for whatever reason either body dysfunction or you didn’t do it because you weren’t warmed up or you just don’t know so you definitely want to make sure that you make a nice hip turn almost like you’re scrunching right in here so you’re not pop popping up and out of this position and then on the downswing you’d like to keep it in there a lot of times my students like to feel that their hips are staying more closed versus popping up and out of the trail side so you’re really not using the ground as efficiently as you could specifically with your trail leg so this drill should help you feel that a little bit better you stand on a pitching wedge i have my gap wedge here underneath your lead foot and angle it so that it abuts your right leg and you if you do this drill wrong you’re going to hit this shaft so you’re going to set up to a golf ball with this underneath your foot definitely use a tee because it’s a hard it’s a hard drill so make sure you make a nice turn and then you may feel like your trail leg stays on the ground a little bit longer your hips stay closed a little bit longer you’re going to feel that you’re still have this crease right here in my squirt and in my shirt and that should slow down popping up and out and actually speed up your arms and you should be able to hit some more solid shots simply by using the ground a little more efficiently try this drill i know it’ll help you [Music]

Do you โ€˜come out ofโ€™ shots at impact? If so, Debbie Doniger has a great hip turn drill to help you rotate through the ball better leading to flush contact.

  1. Hahaha, Iโ€™ve just watched a video on here where the guy is telling you that itโ€™s a โ€œdeath moveโ€ to move your right hip. He instructs you to move your left hip but not your right, doh! Unfortunately my pelvis is telling me something different๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

  2. This actually worked well for me and in hindsight makes sense. We have all heard that pros start their transition before they complete their backswing. They are moving their weight/pressure left while they are still closing their shoulders and hips. The amateur and average joe (including myself) isnโ€™t coordinated enough to pull this off. I have always thought of transition as part of downswing and as a result would start opening hips during transition which is incorrect. I think what this drill allows is for the amateur to mimic the pro. You can separate transition from backswing, make it start of downswing as long as you keep hips shoulders closed to target as shift weight left. Well done.

  3. No Debbie, this one did not work for me, I tried. 1st off what loft is the club under your foot? The club sits so high up when you are stepping on it, I tried all of my clubs nothing sat high at all, they were all down mid shin or lower. Then there is the issue with fidgeting the club so much cause the loft didn't look as yours. I did hit one shot well, but I couldn't get any feedback from this because of the of the club issue.
