As TG’s Equipment Editor, I’m always trying new clubs, but only one product has stayed in my bag over the last 12 months. The Avoda Origin Same Length Irons have revolutionized my golf, in every way.

I can hear the skeptics already. I understand the hesitancy, as this iron set is more than slightly unusual. Coming from a relatively unknown brand that was pushed to the top by Bryson Dechambeau and their R&D team including founder Tom Bailey, you might be wondering where Avoda fit in our best irons of 2025.

Let me be the first to tell you, that for a player seeking stunning looks, consistent performance and remarkable forgiveness for a 1-piece forged blade – This iron set has been the catalyst in my handicap dropping by 20%, when in all honesty, due to injuries it should have been shooting up into double digits.

Looks and Design – 5/5

The Avoda Origin Same Length irons will grab the eyes of any purist golfer. They enter a category where many traditional players might think there isn’t much to do.

A 1-piece forged blade – How unique can you make an iron that can’t really be moulded in the ways of players’ distance irons or game improvement irons?

Avoda have taken a very interesting route with their iron sets. What will stand out to the majority of the golfers when they have these in their hand is the flat, 4mm topline. Couple this up with the tiny 0.5mm offset, and you’ll have a lot of people screaming “butterknife!” This term usually comes with a lack of forgiveness, but not with Avoda – We’ll get onto that later.

What you won’t expect, is that the heel to toe length is relatively generous for a blade. When placing these down next to a traditional blade like the TaylorMade P7MB’s, there is a lot more coverage for Avoda, making the irons intimidating, but not terrifying to the average golfer.

The Avoda Origin Same Length irons come with 2 possible finishes; DLC Black or Chrome. I opted for the glare-resistant matte satin chrome finish, which has held up very well over time. One element that has stood our for me with this iron set is the shelf appeal in your bag. Not only are they different, they have a modern, robotic feel to them head-on. The etching on the minimal cavity, the angular logo. It’s different to any other brand in 2025, which for a gear nerd is a real plus.

Technology – 5/5

This is where we start to dive into some very different configurations compared to a traditional iron set. One Length has been about for some time, with Bryson Dechambeau using them throughout his career.

Cobra was Bryson’s main brand that he worked with in recent years, however with his free agency he began testing outside of a singular company, and has now been using a custom set of Avoda Irons for some time, with founder Tom Bailey ensuring that Bryson’s iron set stay perfect through all of his tweaks and changes.

You can choose Same Length or Combo Length with the Avoda Irons. Same Length is having every iron, from 4 to potentially lob wedge, at 37 inches (that of a 7 iron). If you feel that is too extreme, Combo Length offers a smoother alternative. with the 4 to 7 iron being progressive lengths, but then the 8 to lob coming in at 36 inches.

With One Length, Avoda say there are 5 key benefits:

Simplified Setup and Stance

Improved Swing Mechanics

Faster Learning Curve for Beginners

Enhanced Ball Striking

Consistent Performance Across the Set

However, there may be a drawback for some. The 4 and 5 irons of any One Length set can run into problems: the launch angle particularly. I was fortunate enough to be fit for my set, and saw some pretty astonishing results.

Performance: 5/5

It’s beneficial that I provide some background to my golf career to better understand my last 12 months with these irons.

My last two years on the golf course has been plagued with injuries due to a rather unpleasant car accident in 2023. With my shoulders, elbows, lower back and hips not functioning like a normal 29-year-old, my physical and mental game took a rather substantial knock. It was a win when I could play 18 holes without any pain, let alone scoring well.

In October 2024, I was fortunate enough to head over to Custom Golf Works to be fit for some Avoda Irons. Mark Duncombe, better known as ‘Wedgie’, was my fitter for the day. If you haven’t had the pleasure to meet Mark, he is perhaps the eptiomy of premium custom fitting, with a wealth of knowledge and care for the consumer that is second-to-none. I felt very safe entrusting my wacky golf game in his hands for this session, and it did not disappoint.

We went through my wants and needs with the iron set, and we both agreed that due to my injuries, Same Length would be an suitable route to go down. I had tried One Length in the past, but had issues with gapping and launch windows. With Avoda, I was able to hit multiple different lofts through the fitting, to ensure my gapping needs were met.

It took us quite some time to get the correct spec dialed in for Avoda – Please, please get fitted for this iron set if you’re interested. I was a completely different lie angle and shaft configuration (4 degrees upright and Steelfiber), so from my experience don’t expect your normal setup to slot in nicely.

Once the correct fit was confirmed, we went through the iron set, from pitching wedge, to 7 iron, to 4 iron. I can safely say from a fitting I have never hit the ball with less sidespin. We saw 2 shots come out with 0 sidespin, which I’ve never seen before in any personal or consumer fittings. I managed to hit several shots in my usual miss area (high-toe), and although the one-piece forged blade made clear that I did not hit them well, the results were encouraging enough to not be scared of these 1-piece forged blades.

My only problem was the 4 iron. The launch angle was too low, and although I pleaded with Mark to let me keep the One Length 4 iron in the bag as I was hitting it so consistency, it wasn’t a viable option to improve my golf game.

Only a few weeks later, and the clubs were in my hands to use through the winter and into the summer. Now, although I have still been plagued by injuries in 2025, one clear part of my golf game has stood true: my ball striking. I had about a month period of ingraining these irons into my bag, figuring out my exact gapping due to different lofts from my previous irons and ensuring I was confident with this new approach. Weirdly enough, the longer irons were harder to get used to than the shorter irons. A lot of consumers that I’ve talked to have found similar, whereas you’d think it would be the other way round.

Alex swinging Avoda 7 Iron

Once I was comfortable with these irons being in my bag, they’ve never looked like leaving. Although I can’t prove it, I feel like having the exact same setup with all of my irons has helped my body through the injuries, providing a consistent repetitive motion for all of my iron shots and providing me with a more enjoyable round of golf. I haven’t been able to practice to my full potential with the Avoda Same Length irons, yet my handicap has dropped from 4.8 to 3.8!

Final Verdict – 5/5

I am a very tough reviewer, and have only given full marks to one other product in my time reviewing clubs. The Avoda Origin Same Length irons have become the second, due to the iron set making me fall in love with golf again.

Being able to swing confidently, with a unique, modern iron set, that provides remarkable forgiveness across the board for a 1-piece forged blade is such a good feeling for any amateur and professional golfer. Bryson Dechambeau and Jason Day currently game sets of Avoda irons, and I don’t think they’ll be the only ones in a few months time.

These may not be for every golfer, sure. But for the ball-strikers out there who have some speed, and want to have a consistent, premium iron set from a brand that is making waves in the golf industry – I’d recommend these all day.
