SEATTLE – Washington men’s golf head coach Alan Murray has announced the signing of Hamish Farquharson to the incoming class for 2026-27.

“Hamish is an extremely talented and accomplished player,” Murray said. “He will make an instant impact on our team. He is one of the best amateur and junior players in Australia and we watched him have opportunities to win the Australia Amateur Championship and the Australian Junior Championship but fall agonizingly short.”

Farquharson makes his way to Montlake from Melbourne, Australia where he attended St Kevin’s College.

“Washington allows me to fulfill both my academic and athletic potential, allowing me to get the best out of myself,” Farquharson said. “Their history of success on course and amazing facilities gives me confidence that I’ll improve not just as a golfer but as a person as well.”

Farquharson is a three-time member of the Australian National Team where he most recently represented at the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation Junior Championship in Hong Kong.

In addition, Farquharson won the 2024 South Australian Junior Amateur. In 2025, he finished runner-up at Australian Armature and the Riversdale Cup. He also placed third in the 2025 Australian Junior Amateur.

“He can compete at the highest level,” Murray added. “He has competed all over the world and has shown his game can travel and he is well equipped to adjust to a variety of conditions which serves you well in collegiate golf. Hamish is a really intelligent, competitive guy with a truly ambitious mindset. He works hard and will be a great addition for us. He has represented his country on a few occasions and has competed in a number of professional events, more than holding his own.”

This past July, Farquharson was announced as one of two Cameron Smith Scholarship winners.

While at Washington, Farquharson plans to major is sports education.

“This is a very exciting addition for us and I believe he is really well equipped to help drive our program forward,” Murray concluded. “Being part of Washington and competing at the collegiate level is exactly what he is looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to bring him to Montlake.”
