Santa Margarita’s girls golf team not only reclaimed the CIF-SS Division 1 title this week, it advanced to the CIF Southern California Regional.
The Eagles will be joined by Orange Lutheran and Northwood at regional next week.
Santa Margarita shot an impressive 18-under-par 352 to claim the Division 1 title at Los Serranos Golf Club on Monday.
All five of the Eagles’ players shot under-par as they dethroned Orange Lutheran and set a school record on the course.
The players were Donina Zhou (5-under-par 69), Angelina Tao (69), Annika Raja (70), Nora Qu (71) and Emily Song (73).
Madelyn Cheng also shot 73 for Santa Margarita.
Orange Lutheran placed second with a 365 behind a 71 from Gabrielle Kim.
Crean Lutheran (381) and Northwood (384) finished third and fourth, respectively.
In other results Monday, Portola defended its Division 2 crown by beating San Marino by two strokes at Bear Valley Country Club in Victorville.
In Division 3, at-large playoff entry JSerra edged Chadwick by one stroke for the championship at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.
At the regional qualifier and CIF-SS individual finals Thursday, Santa Margarita finished first at Temecula Creek Golf Club to advance to the regional Thursday, Nov. 13 at Los Serranos.
The Eagles shot a 1-under-par 359.
Orange Lutheran (370) and Northwood (394) placed second and fourth, respectively, to qualify for the regional along with Diamond Bar (387).
Diamond Bar’s Moanikeala Finau shot a 66 to win the CIF-SS individual title. She is a senior committed to Cal State Northridge.
Zhou carded a 69 for third, which led county golfers. She is a junior committed to Princeton.
