Work Underway to Rezone Former Bally Haly Golf Course

The drive to redevelop the former Bally Haly golf course is now firmly in the fairway.

St. John’s city council voted yesterday to rezone the sprawling greenspace to allow a mix of homes, businesses, trails and parks.

That followed last week’s approval off the tee by the city’s committee of the whole.

Councillors acknowledged yesterday that their approach will be watched closer than Tiger on Sunday at The Masters.

But Mayor Danny Breen said while it’s the largest single development in years, he insisted the process will be par for the course.

“I can assure everyone that there will be every opportunity for people to have their input,” he said. “And knowing this developer, they’ll certainly be working with us to make sure that people’s concerns are noted and addressed.”

The next step is for that developer, KMK Capital, to lay out detailed plans for the nearly 120 acres of private land.

That will be followed by at least two public meetings to field questions and concerns.
