and he’s got his work cut out to do it today. He needs to start with a nice three-way down the middle on this opening fairway. [Music] [Applause] as the Island of Ireland’s best ever golfer gets his day started in the final round. Nearly aggressive for a distance and it’s a little lively. Rarely until you see a misjudge by that from such a short distance. He knows he can’t put too many feet wrong. Where five didn’t really look likely is for a four and that is a real shame. He went 37 holes without a bogey. If you got to make a bogey, make one early then go after it. Skid. Go on. His distance control has not been at his best all week long to write the wrongs which he has done just like that of the previous green. What bogey? It’s a distant memory now. Great timing. Oh, not like that. Not much to like about that for Maroy. Maroy has got lucky. So, it’s not the bunker. As you can see here, he’s got the grass. That’s real good news for Maroy fans. Well, not really. There’s a big hunk of grass right behind it. So, every chance he’ll boom this cuz he needs to be aggressive with it. No, look, believe me, that wasn’t bad. And I didn’t see him playing it that way. The the grass behind it was a huge hunk of it. To get it to there wasn’t bad at all. That’s an important puck and it’s one he made. It is so very green. But if you find that rough, good luck. No rough there. That is hammered. just turned a little out of his right. I hope he felt it down and out of the right now. Coming across at Wayne. He’s trying to cut it in left to right there. Beautiful shot. 220 yards. That’s about tour average distance there. Well played. Anything around 40 ft is a a good shot from that far back. Come on. Come on. [Applause] [Applause] He’s got another much needed birdie. Mroy there and it comes at a predictable place. The par five up the right side. That’s okay. That’s okay. It’s a long way up and only a short iron from there in that difficult hole. That was a bit of a nervy watch. Yeah, it was a moderate shot there from Mroy. Not great from 169. Okay, that’s my reckoning that’s almost about 100 ft of putts in the first five holes. Didn’t see that happening for Maro. I thought he’d make the bubblies, but not from those areas in the putting greens. Just a beautiful flight that one. It’s a narrow slither down there of bottlenecks. Mint. Perfect. He’s found it on the top tier. Wonderful shot from Mroy. That’s the best iron shot we’ve seen him hit so far today. You know, seven years ago, I was working on course at Valley Lip and following Rory and he was scrutinizing every single blade of grass in his putts. And of course he was too conf into a puff of it. Heavy air. [Applause] Lovely shot right there in the middle of the fairway. Pretty [Applause] decent lead, but it’s a slow put up that hill. See if he can get speed on. This is his Waterl in 2023. So much improved. This round noise will go right down the fairway should he make it. He’s done what you said, Gary. That’s a slow pot up the hill. No opportunity. Opportunity missed at the moment. Yeah, this is where the golf course opens up now in terms of scoring. 8 9 10 11 for Maroy. What can he do? This is a wide ball. Yeah, iron play has not been great so far from Nakaroy. Two shots behind now. He was four behind starting out. It really is going to be unleashed and it’s so important to find this wide fairway. Two trees fly straight over the top of those. Find the fairway. Get some spin with that wedge. [Applause] Well, he’s got a good lie, but depends if he’s blocked out with those trees down there. He can see the top of the flag, so there’ll be no bailing out here. Taking dead aim. Gap wedge needs to get the show on the road right here, right now. [Applause] [Music] Might just do that. And as that noise rings out, it sits the main protagonist. Wind down out of the right hand side. Hang on to this baby. You must find the fairway. The rough is thick out here now. This is going three. Yeah. Down the right hand side. Not quite in the sand, but not too much in his way. So well escaped for Maroy. I mean, high soft. I mean, that was in a hole. Well, it was indeed a bad light. Oh, these greens. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I saw Michael miss one from 3 ft. Rain, wind, it’s ugly. He’s worn out the right side of this fairway this week. Tough T-shot. He’s trying to muscle this around the corner. Can he? it. That is magnificent. 211 127. Just trying to aim it 20 ft right of it and hopefully get the right amount of spin towards it. A little bit like that perhaps. [Applause] always looked a little high. He’s been so good from long range today. Hasn’t quite delivered from about that range though here in the final round. Safe to say all yesterday. Yes, plenty of footage has gone in already for Maroy. [Applause] [Music] He didn’t quite get it. No, he actually got too much of the ball if you can believe that and just he just thought it’d shoot out off the wet compact sand faster. Yeah, they are. And you feel as though this is going to go left to right. You know what? I’m not so sure. It’s easy to miss this left by over borrowing. I think firm and straight does it. in the hole. [Applause] He’s hit three-wood every day. Looked like it. And hugging the left side every day he has. That’s an excellent T- shot. took the spin right out of it. Dead arming it. Brilliant. That’s brilliant there from Maroy. Set up with a wonderful T- shot there where he can be really aggressive. And this is for the lead on his own. Stop it. A little Mroy magic there at 13. Well, it just dropped in left edge. I think the crowd blew it in. All round good P. [Applause] Is that the little bit of look and break that you need at the right time in a tournament? in the had a lot of loft on it. Good shot there from Maroy. A big old bucket and he’s been holding them for fun. Why not? [Applause] No hopes dashed. I don’t believe he’s found this fairway this week yet. What a day to do that. [Applause] [Applause] Good escape from Maroy there. That has to be said. Does he aim it down the right at those bunkers, the left edge of them and just hit a soft draw? Length isn’t the issue. You must if you got to reach in two, find the fairway. When he won this, he hit two unbelievable shots on here in two in 2016. [Laughter] Uh, for Well, that’s what he did yesterday. He hit a big pull hook yesterday. Hit to the trees. Had to lay it up. And he’d be doing that again today. And Interesting. He’s playing it out to the right there. He could have gone further left and further on if he want, but he’s obviously playing to a yardage there. That’s what he’s trying to do. He’s worked something out with Harry and what ideal yardage he wants so the ball doesn’t backspin too much. A little bit conservative there. I was just wondering, Wayne, does he is there a scoreboard out there? Does he know he’s behind now? Yeah, he’s been looking. Harry and him have been looking at them all day. They are watchers, let me tell why not. I believe in watching the board. You want to know exactly where you stand. Okay. So, he’s aware he’s one shot behind now. Oh, he knows. [Applause] Yeah, Mar of course won this 2016. He was runner up last year to Raasmus Hoyot for top 10s he’s had in his 15 visits to this tournament. It’s all going to come down to who can handle the pressure best. up and out of it a little. [Applause] Okay, first cut hole is playing into the wind. Pretty thing. That’s a good swing. Time is of the essence for Rory. They needed better. [Music] Super putt. Nothing wrong with that effort. Just wasn’t quite to be. Setting up for a grandstand finish from Maroy with Eagle down the last. And with his power, surely he can get it with an eight and nine iron second shot should he hit a good drive. That could be a possibility. He’s going to need it. Yeah, it’s 325 to cover the bunkers down the right hand wing. I don’t think that is an issue. We have adrenaline flowing through this man’s veins. [Applause] That’s launched from Maroy there. 136 ft. Well, when you think of the average on tour is just under 100 ft. Shows you how high he hits it. 2011 dead aim a time. Bring it on. Well, he’s given himself a chance. There’s only been one eagle on this hole today so far. And now with the hole, it doesn’t break as much right to left as what players have been reading [Applause] last year at County Down. The one of the loudest rounds of applause I heard was when Rory Mroy for that eagle putt on the last put his ball down. I mean it was quite amazing. Not so loud here. They gave him an applause but then he finished out his playing partner. So it’s just out of the right hand side gently uphill. It’s a wonderful chance. Big stage. Last chance salute. Would you believe it? Maroy Eagles the last and draws up alongside Lagrin. The crowd go nuts. Just box office. [Applause] Well, he’s had many great moments this year. We know that. But I bet you that will live forever in his memory, that moment. The Grand Slam champion with one of the grandest moments of his career. He’s still alive. He hits the house with the eagle at the last bag 3466 and 1700. He read it so well, didn’t he? So many people missed it right there. It’s only the second eagle of the day. Well, he didn’t disappoint, did he? What a moment. It was the most beautiful of PS, but he went in with pace right in the heart of the hole. As he was warming up this morning, I was walking over to open the show with Iona on Sky and I said, “Give us something to shout about, Rory.” And he’s just did. I don’t think the microphones could take it. He’s old over 160 ft of putt in this final round alone. I’m not sure if the crowd can take much more. What a year he is experiencing. Good things happening once again for Nakaroy. The island of Ireland is on cloud nine once more. Not watch what Rory does. It’s been sitting around for a good 25 minutes. Oh, one good t-shaw up the left side of this fairway. Huge bounce. Tremendous drive from Yokim. 325 to cover the bunker’s down the right wing and he’ll take it further right than he did in real time. Good wind at his back right now. Lot of help. [Applause] Nice soft bounce for Rory. Wasn’t quite on the line he intended. And it’s a flush down the middle. All the same. Driver off the tea for Lagrin. Not the best club in his bag. As we saw on the first play, he’s got plenty of power in the tank. Adrenaline’s pumping. He can cover this corner on the right hand side. 325. Can he get one more drive in the fairway? Put the pressure on Rory. [Applause] Nice kick. Fairway found. A job well done from the Swede. Doesn’t look like he’s phased with this pressure. Right, Marroy. Now, will Rory flirt with the right hand rough and open up that angle with that flag back left? He took a lot off the first drive in the first playoff hole and hit it quite short short. Will he unleash here? Come on, boys. Another smoothie. It’s for the right. A wonderful hit. It truly is. 165 from the yellow spot to the front of the green. So high on 200 to the pin. [Applause] So, another excellent second. He’s just about where Maroy just puted from, chunked it. Oh, that’s not the kind of fat shots that I used to hit. Anyway, there the water back into play. That’s a tough two pop from there. [Music] I’ve seen that length of pop before. It happened in June couple of years ago. Well, I’m nervous. Well, that that was a little error. I know he was brave to go for it. This time there’s no mistake. Maroy with a four. And the pressure on Lagrint of this six-footer is enormous. made it all the harder. The heavy-handedness of the first putt, but he showed great composure up till now. What a stroke. What a stroke from Lagardin. Goodness me, the eyes have it. There’s ice in his veins. Remember, they go back to 18. If they’re tied after this third playoff hold, they’ll change the whole location. This is now or never. But if you wanted a chip, this is simple up the hill. Very, very holable. Not to be. Mroy provides the X factor at the K club. What a tournament.
